Got to speak to him over the phone once while I was working at iF3. He wanted to know how to claim his comped movie ticket to watch Twenty by PBP. He called my cell as I was setting up at our afterparty venue, so I directed him to the VIP pass pickup table at the cinema, completely starstruck. He was a very humble, polite and low key dude. People tell me he would show up to the festival alone and sit in the crowd next to kids he didn't know just to enjoy the films with fans. That was iF3 Montreal 2014. He came to the festival just before heading out on a trip to Patagonia. About a week later he was reported missing. Really wish I would have gotten to know him better. A legend in every sense of the word.

fuck I hit post by accident

...(after like 45 mins of debating). My buddy hit him with the classic "hey are you JP auclair?" He ended up chatting with us for over thirty mins and it was life changing. He kept turning the conversation back on us and asking where we were from and where we skied and what we loved about it. He was so kind (we were pretty socially awkward at the time) and seemed genuinely interested in us. The next day we bumped into him again walking out of Valhalla and he remembered both of our names and referenced our conversation from last night. A couple weeks later we saw that he died in South America.

Definitely super vivid moment in my mind still, 5 years later. Amazing guy.

Despite only being a few years older than me, he was always a personal hero of mine. There's an idiom that more or less says "Don't meet your heroes, you'll be disappointed." Well, that nugget of wisdom couldn't be further from the truth. JP was a genuine, humble and incredibly nice person. It's not just skiing that is worse off for not having JP, but the world.

1999 or 2000 was sitting in the hottub the day before camp started at High North. Sun was setting and JP comes walking past. I guess he had stayed up on the lane late making sure it was dialed and walked down from where the snow ended. Had to have been a couple miles. The buddies and I just kinda of stared as he passed. Over the next 3 summer I got to spend a week with him getting coached and goofing around. One of the most genuine, kind, and hilarious guys I have ever met. He was real good at skiing too. I'm lucky to have spent the time with him I did, but sad that there wasn't more. I'll try to get some vids posted soon.

Yes, I have quite a few memories of JP.
My first trip to the French Alps, first time sledding in the backcountry, first time getting drunk solely on bloody marie's lol. Since day one, he's always been friendly and interested in other people, dedicated to his sport, great sense of humour and most of all incredibly professional. He's always been supportive of my endeavours wether it was D-Structure, iF3 or photography, he was all in with passion.

Last time I saw him, was at iF3 a few weeks before his death. I was running around taking care of things and super busy. He came up to me in true JP style, looked me in the eyes, shaked my hand and said "salut man".

I've know many people over the years that have past away, but still now JP's passing doesn't feel real to me. Probably because his influence is all around us, and will be forever.

I have one. Just met the guy for the first time.

It was in 06, he walks into the Acrobatic Team's meeting space and hands us a copy of Propaganda, Session 1242 and Happy Days; still in its original cover. We were always watching ski movies to pass the time and to get stoked about skiing bumps.
He used to be an athlete for the very same team, but left 5-6 years before I joined to form the New Canadian Air Force, but he sat down with our coaches and caught up with them to discuss the good old days were he almost got kicked out for ditching training and mogul competitions. I got to have a quick chat before he had to take off. I was pretty bummed that he couldnt spend the day with us.

The dude was super down to earth. I just wished I had the chance to ski with him for a bit.
