Vail finalizes buying Peak Resorts

Maybe this is common knowledge, but former Peak Resorts was owned by the Sackler family, set to get 100$ mil from the sale - the same family that owns Purdue Pharma and is getting their asses sued for starting the opioid epidemic.

well boys what other stocks are we buying now so when vail buys them out, theh offer 2x share price.

Would be neat if NS used their big corporate insurance to cover membership to ropetow parks, ideally in colder urban areas (Denver, Boston, Albany), by having a paid membership. Revenue from that could *help* generate revenue to open some parks. Extremely unrealistic, but man, I'd be a happy camper if I could work in the city and have a park to shred within walking range of the T.

I still am a hard believer that they will downsize park program at Mt Blow. Vail has followed that model at other resorts and Mt Snows park program is way to big. Financially and realistically it make sense to cut that down to 2 trails over at Carinthia. Especially with a new lodge there they will not want that all park.

Mt.Blow lol. We just ran snowmaking for another park this summer so we shall see if Vail makes us pull back on that idea! But, financially it would be a bad idea to cut down more than we already planned, and to eliminate the Carinthia Face. As someone who does some marketing for Peaks the numbers all lean towards Carinthia as a money maker.

nailed it.. that new lodge is not for the current demographic of that portion of the mountain. next a hotel will go up with underground parking where the old lodge (current VIP parking) was. That lodge is too nice for the current crowd.. let's be realistic here.

Stratton is the prime example. They remove all their park trails so Jerrys can do just that. and guess what.. stratton is doing just fine financially. They could care less about the park scene. Park kids have no money. when will all of NS understand this. The Jerrys are the ones coming up and staying in hotels and eating on resort and spending money in the village. Park rats bring PB&J and tallboys and tailgate while using their buddy's season pass they bought at a college rate...

Beaver Creek - Rodeo park died in 2017 nothing but smedium features now. Not a single park event, not a single image in marketing or social media. They like to pretend there's no demand for parks in Eagle County because Key and Breck are only an hour or so away.

Vail - Hasn't got a decent park built for weeks or months in to their season the past couple years. Their snowmaking resources are focused on race and the Burton Open venue. I'd be surprised if the Burton US Open stays at Vail much longer. I'd be surprised if the event continues to exist anywhere tbh.
Keystone - ...we'll see.

The only resorts to retain park specific social media pages are keystone and breck. they've been grandfathered in since the beginning since it's always been a focus for them.

I probably wouldn't be too concerned about Mount Snow and Big Boulder because parks have always been a focus for them but I can guarantee you'll be seeing some changes in operations for 2020-2021 season. Bank on it.

Yup. It’s a client based change. Vail doesn’t need to cater to that demographic. They know their customer base. They know a “normal” “average” park is fine at most of their resorts. They don’t need to spend and waste resources in parks when there is no ROI

Im sure the ROI for all Carinthia is minimal if any profit even. There is more to be made with a few park trails over there and utilize that new lodge for a broader customer base that has more money and longer return ratio.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the mountains get rid of their bigger jumplines/parks. It really doesn't make sense to waste all the money blowing snow and pushing for 55'+ jumps when people aren't riding them. Sure it's cool for marketing to have some good kids lapping the big features, gets people stoked to ride there, but park kids just don't generate enough money as posted above.

Most mountains can get by with an intermediate or below park. You kind of need to have A park, but it doesn't need to be a big park.

I wouldn't be surprised if inferno was the first to bite the dust. I would cry if prospector did though. Inferno is awesome, but it never seemed to get the volume and it's sandwiched between gulch and nitro which get the majority of the people. Losing prospector would be a fucking tragedy though.

We can't have wood rails at northstar anymore. Prospector was really the only trail I've seen that embraced weird wooden features. Sure plenty of rando stuff in the woods at some mountains, but prospector changed the game, and they've kept with it for 10 years.

Here to place some facts down again....Inferno will just be a ski trail next season as it was decided last year. (Don't worry though the last two jumps are staying) This is because they have to give a trail to the Condo Association that owns property next to Grommet. The only reason why features are ever put on inferno are for shoots/competitions. So, since they don't host the Big Slopestyle event anymore no need to built it top to bottom. This has been the plan all along, thats why if you went to Carinthia last season they cleared a bunch of trees next to the half pipe. This was done for two reasons, First to be able to keep the last two jumps without taking up to much room on inferno, and to use the 30+ feet of snow the snow guns blew into that little section of woods. So yes, no need to Build inferno as it is a pretty boring park trail that no one rides the top of.

If they were to cut down trails to Nitro business would go downhill I believe. Monday-Friday they have three or more schools (SMS, MSA, ASTC) training on either Gulch, Inferno, or Nitro. If they didn't have those three main trails for them stuff would get hectic. A lot of the programs have younger and older divisions, so the young guns ride Nitro then go to train jumps on Inferno or rails on Gulch when ready. Gulch jumps barley ever get hit because its a tough spot for speed and the rail line next to the jumps is unreal haha.

Finally, as for the "Ash & Steel" this was an event hosted by Snowboy Productions Last season. They are a Snowboard only event that comes around and builds rad setups at diffrent parks across the world. They wanted to use they Ash wood rails they had in prospector and make an event called "Ash & Steel". This event happened last year late spring and they decided to just let it ride instead of digging all the rails out. I can tell you for a fact that the wood rails are staying. As of yesterday, the boys were greasing them up and husking new additions for this season. This is actually . huge draw and I know people that come from pretty far just to hit the wooden feature we have. Ya never know though maybe some more metal wooden combos are on the way :)

yep. i agree. basically you just session nitro, cut through the woods and hit those last two. many many years ago inferno was a full top to bottom park that was sick. the jumps would start out reasonable and then get massive at the bottom. years ago (The t rainville years) it was 80' for the last jump and it sent you to the moon. the side hit option on it was massive as well. i remember it well. big old step down jump into the massive rainbow into a setup jump into the XL jump. such fun. Be cool if they keep those two jumps but put more rails and boxes where they cleared the trees, using the left wall of the pipe for banked hits too.

Here is a Vail lie .Peak is now Epic until they ask you to chase Peak for a refund when upgrading your pass.All of a sudden Peak is Peak and Epic can’t help.I ask agent I thought you were the same company.......no answer.
