Thoughts on ~100 width skis for the east coast

There a good one ski quiver but honestly probably don't need more then 96s on the east coast. But what do I know I impulsively bought black crows 117 underfoot and I live in Rhode Island.

But there just isn’t fresh/soft snow on the east often enough for me to think it’s worthwhile to have that much width everyday

StephenDiscurrently have a pair of 2017 chronics, 92 underfoot and I’m thinking about getting a pair of armada arv 106’s. I am a little concerned as to whether or not this ski could be my daily driver. Anyone ski mid 100 skis on the east and have some thoughts? Usually go to mount snow bc it’s an hour from my school and I’m thinking about 1 or two trips out west this year.

Buy the arv 106s, they are a super good ski even with not a lot of snow.

my daily driver at mount snow last season was the bentchetler 100. I also would take out the Rustler 10 for the hard hard pack east coast days. If you are looking for a fun ski that can slash turns and hold its own in the park on medium sized features, the bentchetler100 works very well. It handles the woods and was more than capable at Gore during a 12+" storm. i also took it out west for Mt Baker and Whistler this past season when they were in a dry spell and only got a few inches here and there. Handled great.

What length? There are hundreds of options here. You won’t be limited at all unless you’re tall. Then it gets tricky. The Arv 106 would be a great choice. It’s not too wide, but probably the max you will feel comfortable with. I listed a few below, but they are all very different skis. How do you ski? Fast/race background? Or do you want something more forgiving? Park? Are you taking trips out west? Etc.

I’ve been on origin 116’s and JJ’s on the east coast and have had no problems at all. Get some funny looks, but they charged. It’s cause it’s hard to find narrow skis that I like. This year Fischer came through with the Ranger 102fr in a 191 so I finally added something narrower that isn’t a noodle when I’m not out west.

Thanks for the recommendations. I would consider myself a park skier. If conditions aren’t the greatest I’ll just lap the park for most of the day with the occasional soul run down main face. When there’s snow, I like to be in the trees/hit cliffs that east coast mountains offer and will rarely go in the park. So park when it’s a park day and when the snow is good, I try to take advantage of what the mountain has to offer. I’m wondering how the arv 106’s handle as park skis because I’ve seen mixed opinions online.

Got it. Like a few others said, you’ll probably enjoy the Benchetler 100 a lot. You’re gonna have to decide what’s more important, mountain performance or occasional park use tbh. The ARV’s might not be the worlds best park ski, but you’d be happier when you’re ripping. Feel me? Could always go ARV96 if you want more park and less use elsewhere.

Theres seriously no need to ride a ski under 104 or so. 96 is a joke.

Ski in similar conditions and have skied my 104s on days when the snow isn’t going to be super hard. Have narrower skis when it’s really firm out and you could use your old skis if it was too.

Going to the ARV 96 would improve soft snow performance somewhat and it would be good in the park but I think it would be too similar to the Chronics. The ARV 106 would be the bigger upgrade in softer snow and powder but would be a bit more work on days that didn’t have new snow in awhile.

Skis around 100mm would be the most versatile for you in and out of the park and would be able to handle a bit of powder too. When it really snows out West, rent/eventually buy some 116mm plus powder skis for those days.

Bent 100 is great value ski especially if you can get last year’s stock and I’d size up on that ski as it’s light and soft up front and the longer length will be more stable.
The other great value in this width and a perfect ski for your use is the Dynastar Menace 98. Like a wide park ski that is great on groomers, fun in the park/moguls and tip/tail width is similar to the ARV 106 so good float but with very good groomer performance still. The ski has been out forever with the name Dynastar Slicer(just top sheet/name change) and there is one pair of last year’s version in 175cm left at Corbetts.com for $300 Can/$225 US! Insane deal on a perfect ski for you. Put the money saved towards some super wide powder skis in the future!
I picked up a longer pair myself and will use it on days that aren’t super firm and may take it along with a set of wider powder skis for out West trips.

I’ve rode 115/112 waist in NY and VA for at least 10 years and wouldn’t down size

If you’re mainly going to Mount Snow I’d consider the Arv 96’s, the 106’s are sweet but for Msnow I don’t think you’d need something that wide. If you’re going to Jay peak or Stowe a lot that’s a different story. You’re call man

I have a pair of Prodigy 3.0s that I daily, they're my skinniest skis. I ski Loon Sunday River blah blah. 2 of my friends ski the ARV 106 and the K2 Marksman respectively as their only skis and they do fine. In the end its your decision because a lot of people don't like wider skis.

I just bought prodigy 3.0s for touring around burnt, gba, saddleback, etc. I'm pretty excited for them as a powder/corn ski
