FogdartI'd have to say Mississippi or Louisiana cuz they're hillbilly as fuck and poor as shit. Never been to but just know. In terms of states I've been to, WV takes the cake.
Titus69Nebraska can fuck off, never been more repulsed and unimpressed by anything else.
theabortionatorCan't find a hotel for 100 miles when the cornhuskers play. Also sweet parking somewhere to nap and hearing all the methheads tinkering around the lots. Also flat, straight, and boring as fuck. Ultra shot in snowstorms, Wheres the road again?
Cops in all those states are kinda whack too.
The whole state reminds me of that fight club movie when he feels like he's already been everywhere at a different time. It's a mix between, everything looks the fucking same, and I'e probably at least bought gas at everyone of those exits at least once over the years.
Titus69I only spent my time on the highway and in a motel 6 with just a gas station and a field of windmills, glad that's the only 14 hours I've had there. It's a state with what looks like nothing, not sure how anyone wants to live there.
CaptainObvious. These conversations always fascinate me. The midwestern states that get shit on are usually done so by people who used to or currently do live there. I always try to think about whether the state has any redeeming qualities. Ohio may be a fucking drag to grow up in, but I've visited Columbus and it was pretty cool for a three day stay. Cleveland is a pretty big city and there are the Bengals in Cincinatti. Same argument for Indiana. Indianapolis is an awesome city to visit, Lucas Oil stadium is dope, and if you've never been to the Indy 500 put it on your bucket list.
There are two states I can think of with zero redeeming qualities and no reason to visit.
Nebraska and North Dakota.

FogdartSo I live in Columbus, Ohio. Born in northeast. If we are talking Midwest I feel obligated to add input.
Ohio could be split into 4 sections. Some being very very shitty and some being pretty decent. Northeast being the best due to it being the least hillbilly while also not being completely flat- good proximity to northeast states. South East Ohio is basically West Virginia hill billy af. I lived there for a year and it is trash as fuck; so poor, so much drugs, nothing to do, but outdoors is decent. Northwest Ohio, also lived there, is boring and flat af. It's basically Indiana sponsored by Walmart. There's nothing great about northwest Ohio unless you're a human trafficker. Miles and miles of flat boring fucking farmland- such a bad drive. Southwest Ohio, you have Cinci and Dayton. Not bad for a weekend or night with some good breweries and bar scenes but I personally just wouldn't live there.
In terms of cities, they've really stepped up their game the past few years in terms of infrastructure, food, and bars in Cleveland and Columbus. Cleveland is probably my favorite and very underrated. If you're not having fun, it's probably because you're doing something wrong or going to college or dive bars. Dive bars are plentiful but also avoidable. Columbus on the other hand has a fantastic quality bar scene with a good amount of quality breweries and tons of good restaurants. Places to avoid but also too many good ones to choose in a single night. Also HUGE gay scene, like humungo now so that attracts a lot of people. Columbus and somewhat Cleveland is experiencing an outrageous population boom of young adults which is rapidly changing its landscape. If you haven't been to either in the past 3 years, then I could see why some may say they suck.
In terms of outdoors, even though SE Ohio is much more wilderness, I'd have to say NE is better and really helps keep Ohio from being just another boring flat state with a big city. Cleveland metro area has one of the best metropark systems around that links with Akron and Canton. Columbus quite sucks for outdoors. Flat af. Metroparks are flat and paved. Any semi hilly places require driving and mtn biking is mediocre.
It sounds a lot like I'm defending my home state. Well let me tell you there's qualities I like about Ohio, but I do not want to live here my whole life. Biggest comolaint: It's too far from the shit I like to do, skiing especially. Shittiest state though? Far from it.
I agree on WV being great for outdoors but other than that, it's so poor and trashy it's unfathomable.
LonelyOhio is literally the worst state in the Midwest
SendyMcSendyfaceProvince, not a state, but Ontario. Holy fuck it sucks balls. Its super flat, biggest ski hill has maybe 700' vert, and its like a 3 hr drive from where I live. Also, the entire population of Toronto goes there. Southern Ontario is thousands of square miles of suburbs. Most people here are assholes, and everyone drives worse than I've seen anywhere else, even California. If you want to get into the woods, you gotta drive at least 4 hrs north, usually 5+ if you want to really get away. North Ontario is lakes, trees and swamps, and it all looks the same. Even shooting guns here is a pain. Public land is 4hrs north, all the ranges are private, with ridiculous membership fees, and year long waiting lists. 5 weeks until I'm outta here.
DeebieSkeebiesPoor is poor no matter the area so thats really not a fair judgement imo.
Being from the midwest myself (Michigan), id say some of those states including small towns in the midwest are loveable shitholes that you can't wait to leave and anyone who doesn't is destined to a life of going to the same bar every night after work and drinking their lives away.
BdoobzEh, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are worse my dude. Northern Ontario is super tight, massive parks and great hiking/camping. The only problem is to get there from the south its at least a 9 hour drive.
But ya, shit driver's, can't fault you there.
CaptainObvious.Nebraska and North Dakota.
OregonDeadOP did not say US State and booze may be one way to measure. Based on @xxACIDTRIPxx I figured NZ would be way up there in consumption and in a way they are. Annual consumption in NZ is 14.3 liters/person compared to 11.28 in Wisconsin. If you have ever been to Wisco you know . ND actually does consume more at 12.34l / person.
The shocker is that there are a number of places where people consume over twice as much as they do in NZ. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_alcohol_consumption_per_capita 36.6 liters/person in Tunisia , how do these people even survive? S. Africa is also way up there. @theabortionator for Lesotho it says 28.2 liters/person a year is this possible?
TnskiThe flat ones because mountains rule
SegsxiThe Chinese believe that living next to the mountains brings you good fortune, and I believe it!
SegsxiNevada is actually booty
when most of us go to Las Vegas we go to the strip nowhere else in the city... and for good reason. The rest of the city pretty much sucks.. crime is rampant there is literally nothing else that is remotely exciting.. it’s basically like a giant suburbia.. it’s depressing alcoholism and reminiscent of days past. The rest of the state is literally Nothing.. Nothing but desert. I know a lot of you will mention Reno because it’s proximity to skiing but be honest Reno ain’t shit!!
Also AZ sucks too, it’s the same thing..
Phoenix is literally a giant conglomerate of suburbs.. it’s not exciting at all, the night life is extremely terrible compared to other cities it’s size and even smaller (Portland for example is more exciting..) AZ is also depressing the type of place that people get stuck.. there’s extremely low wages but there is an abundance of jobs.. that is of course If you are a psycho and can tolerate the oven like weather. (Thanks but No thanks)
theabortionatorI agree. I also start each day with a rhino horn and tiger penis protein shake. I've never been healthier.
