theabortionatorI personally couod never teach lessons again. I like people, I'm good at teaching, but that job grinds away your soul imo.
Also was a lifty/ticket checker for 2 months when I broje my collarbone. Was not a fan of that.
Honestly both have their perjs and coukd be fun but they aren't my jam.
fredyferlI worked as a rental tech for two months and it was retarded. A bunch of people quit cause it was managed poorly. One time we had to stay until 1 AM to prepare a school of 400 people coming in the next day. I quit that next day.

buyfulltiltsI'm curious, care to elaborate why?
theabortionatorIdk maybe not my jam and too much day care ish stuff. Also too many douches. I liked coaching freestyle a lot more, got way more repeats but still woukd rather just build.
Working days in parks Id see people trying tricks sometimes and help em out for fun. I dig that or helping friends but teaching for a job kills me.
I just like building/maintaining parks.
Titus69Damn both you and OP hated being rentals, maybe its location biased cause I do rentals and demos at park city and personally when I deal with a person who somewhat knows how to ski it's nice. Jerry's suck ass but usually can send em to another shop easily or toss em on some very basic blizzard brahmas, we also dont do kids stuff at our specific shop which is nice.

ohmyglob8yeah it was a breeze ski rentals, which is basically vail rentals, so it was a constant corporate dictatorship of hell
Titus69Lol, I work at one of colesports shops and as long as everything runs smooth it's super chill, were also hot owned by Vail which is tight. Just sucks when Jerry's and hardos that think they're the best and come in to talk about demos for 20 minutes.
skiermanYEAH BRO, I'M TOTAL LEGIT WHICH IS WHY I SPEND TIME IN HARDXCORE LOCAL SKI SHOPS LIKE COLESPORTS AND REI TALKING TO EMPLOYEES ABOUT HOW MUCH I KNOW ABOUT 2020 SKIS' SIDECUTS AND CONSTRUCTION. DID I MENTION I HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION TO SKIMAG AND WATCH WME MOVIES EVERY YEAR? IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, WME IS LOCAL TALK FOR WARREN MILLER! HE'S THE BEST!
CAREFUL THO! I PURPOSELY ASK QUESTIONS I KNOW THE ANSWER TO IN HOPES OF CATCHING PEOPLE IN A TRAP SO I CAN BERATE THEM FOR 10 MINUTES ABOUT HOW THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT SKIING! I'M LIKE TOTALLY LOCAL HARDCORE BRO!
ThatSkiierKidd64you should try a spelling bee
patagonialukeWanna come build Crested Butte's park? The jump line last year was like playing russian roulette.

-eREKTion-I think ski school would suck. Some of the ski school supervisors I know are fucking weirdos. There's this one supervisor in Mammoth who rides lifts all day watching for instructors skiing with poor form and calls them out on it constantly. My roommate quit after he got bitched at for riding park skis because he "couldn't even carve properly on those pieces of shit". He was riding switch on a bunny slope teaching a 5 year old how to pizza....
theabortionatorThe hardcore ski instructors stuck in their own bubble circle jerk are whack af. Every year or two we have to do a riding assessment for Vail to be able to ride on the clock. That makes sense to get rid of the liability of Joey eating shit because he can't actually ride a snowboard but out there on the clock for break.
That said when I did it at Beaver Creek it was mellow as. Dude rip some random carves and went through some icy moguls full speed etc and made sure I looked in control and didn't eat shit. Had decent form etc. Boom, done.
The ones at Northstar are hilarious. We get to go out with people that spend WAYYYY too much time in a clinic setting, probably not enough time teaching, and generally jerk each other off about technique etc.
The one year the guy was grilling me about something stupid, and I told him that I like the way I turn better than his turns. He couldn't really fail me, but they made me ride with them for an extra hour while doing your usual level 3 plus assessments of turns etc.
Also they wanted us doing full turns to a stop almost across the whole hill, doing the bullshit posture movement deal. Which on a busy day would get you fucking killed by somebody riding behind you, and be extra fucked if you're riding with tools. Idk, I taught for a few years, I understand what they're going for but this is a riding assessment not a level 2/3 clinic. Fuck off with your ski school bullshit and let us go back to doing our actual jobs.
/rant
Sparknotes: Fuck riding assessments and the circle jerk type level 3s. There's a time for breaking down and building technique, and then there's a time for practical riding assessment. Something something, frig off!
oldmanskiI haven’t worked at a ski hill but I have done my share of dirty jobs. I would think the person that has to clean up after everyone like the janitor or the housekeeper in the hotel to the plumber that has to unplug the toilet full of shit and puke are winners in my book.
-eREKTion-Solid rant, I've never worked on snow so I've never done a riding assessment but that shit cracks me up. I watched a chick in an instructor clinic fucking wreck a dude last year because she was doing some weird carving exercise and cut very suddenly in front of him. Luckily, patrol saw otherwise the gaggle of instructors would have tried to pull this guys pass.

TRVP_ANGELImagine seeing this response in a level9sports live chat
skiermanYou wanna know what's really funny? You can't read. If you could you'd realize it wasn't making fun of you at all but rather the customer you pointed out as annoying. Good lord....

PeppermillRenoLiftie for Vail.
bongripperBeing a liftie is probably not amazing. Especially on a powder day, ouch, that would hurt seeing dudes getting face shots while you have to ride their asses up the lift.
DolanReloadedI feel like everybody chooses liftie as their first resort job and hates it. The only happy lifties ive known were drug dealers on the side. If the liftie job is a cover for selling it can be a pretty nice setup. 10 bucks an hour to say “hows it going” 1500 times per day is not very fun if thats all you got going on.
