Couple of questions for you. Ignoring the binding, what did you think of the performance of the Mr.P Opus for how you ski? What DIN do you run your bindings at?

In addition to twigs questions, which year 4.0 are you looking at? This years thats all black with a bison on it is a little different than previous years which might affect your choice slightly.

Twig: I have loved the Opus. I have Skied it in different locations both in Europe, Japan, and NA and in warrying conditions.
I think its a ski that encourage you to have more fun ni the mountains and pushes you to do new things. From shitty low snow conditions in Sweden to waist deep pow in Japan it's always been fun to ski.

What I've come to realise though is that at my weight(and hight) the ski is somewhat soft: for example,if i get backseat, be it in powder or steeper conditions it can be hard to get back to the middle of the ski since it doesnt offer to much support. Now I know it's the purpose of Pollards design, to be honest when i bought the ski I thought it looked rad and bought it(not so much an informed decision). But as i've become a better/ more agressive skiier the opus seems to be somewhat to soft for me.

Fy:, I ended up buying the 190 wildcat 108 last year, wonderful ski though kinda short. my no1 problem when looking for skis seems to be are they long enough.

And lstly I've run my opus set up with 12-14 in din setting depending somewhat on conditions/terrain.

So @TheWeaz has skied the Prodigy 4.0 more than me. But I've done a day and I really enjoyed them, they were stiffer feeling than the 3.0 and had great float. They definitely ski stiffer than the Opus but are still playful and fun. I'd recommend mounting significantly forward of the recommended point if you want that Opus feel though. From memory recommended is quite far back, and I pushed the demo bindings as far forward as they'd go and still would have liked a cm or two more. Around -2 to -4cm is probably the sweet spot.

That said, I loved the 4.0. Perhaps even more than the Prodigy 3.0 which is my go to daily ski. I just don't get to ski enough deep days to justify a 116mm ski very often and I'm testing the Armada wideboys, so I didn't have space in my lineup to ski the 4.0 long term.

In terms of bindings, my opinion is if you run a Din 12-14 I wouldn't recommend it the shift. I run a 10 on the Shifts to get the balance of retention/release I'd like (and I'm 5'9, 135lbs, 293mm boot). I've seen too many people have issues on the shift to recommend it to big guys running dins at the top of the range. Go CAST or Duke PT.

I think I got like 4-5 days on them at the resort before covid shut everything down, so not enough for a full review but I have a pretty good feeling for the prodigy 4.0. They are going to be significantly stiffer than the opus, especially underfoot, the rockered portions I don’t find unreasonably stiff but are on the stiffer end, I could still throw nose butters off cat tracks without a problem.


I mounted at 6cm behind center because thats right about where all the other skis I was skiing on were mounted, recommended is like 9.5 cm back which I think would take away a lot of the playfulness of the ski. I wouldn’t worry about mounting forward of the line significantly to get the feel you want.

I liked the ski a lot for a mix of bigger lines and also throwing a couple tricks in there. It probably won’t be as surfy and easy to butter as the opus but will be a lot better when the snow is chopped up or your dropping into a faster line or bigger features.
