Replying to Is the Sakana for me? what length?
I am 44, 5"11 and 190 pounds. I ski in Whitefish MT and mostly stick to the trees whenever possible. I ski old 15 Bacons that are 108s underfoot I believe, and they are old demo skis that have been drilled numerous times and are super soft and suck on any type of hard pack or groomer. They are 184cm.
I also have a pair of 16 Line Magnus Opus that are 188. They are my go to ski in the power and trees, and I do OK with them on the groomers but they are not much fun there and I end up fighting them the whole way down the mtn.
I am not a hard charger, I will do some smaller jumps and drops, but nothing crazy. I like to have fun and surf and slide around, but stay out of the park and just have fun jumping around in the trees when I can.
I'd consider myself as an advanced to average skier.
I want something that will be more fun on the groomers, but I'm not looking at setting any speed records, just want something that will hook up better and be able to carve vs chatter the whole way down the mtn. I'd like to be able to still go in the trees and ski in the powder when its there.
I'm pretty sold on the Sakana, but open to suggestions. I also am leaning towards the 174 because I really want to be able to throw them around in the trees, but I am worried that they will not hook up for me on the groomers.
Should I go with the 181?
