What if resorts made edits live?

hmm sounds like a good idea, however if there is an influx of terrain park attendees slayin' features with these "tracking devices" would the camera only track one at a time? or like one tracking device for one feature? There is a camera system as you say that tracks the subject with a gps locator, i forget what that brand was, it was an "automatic camera" At my home resort in the bike park in the summer-time, they've got a couple cameras with motion sensors on couple wallrides, that if you get high enough it'll snap a pic and you just go to their website and purchase a copyright picture online. I mean if you can always get a friend to film you with your own cellular device

I'm sorry sir, our only music options are Nickelback and Imagine Dragons, but for another 50 dollars and a parental waiver we can edit out the audio and allow you to put your own in.

As far as edits that might be tricky. They could sell stuff but who knows if it would be seen as some sort of liability or piss people off being on camera. But could be doable. That said, how sick are most peoples turns down cord. The people hitting the park are too few for the major corps to likely cares. And every noob has a gopro these days.

What if ski resorts installed cameras at the ideal angles for all their park features, and then offered some sort of program where you pay whatever up front, and they give you some sort of tracking device to carry. You rip all day, and all the cameras are following you based on your device.

At at the end of the day you could either download all the raw footy or just get their auto-generated edit.

I totally get what your concept is but in reality I’d argue it would be close to nothing is better than this something territory. In order to have this automated, the shots would be static or with very basic pans/tilts at best, and there’d be trade offs with quality angles getting blocked by randos skiing by, vs choosing lesser quality ones higher up. Having a bunch more shit hung up def wouldn’t help the aesthetic of the mountain either. Instagram is already filled with non-dynamic boring content, and this system would most likely only add to that pile. Part of the magic of making an edit is sharing the stoke with the filmer whose also fired up to be capturing it, can’t do that with robots

this. while it could be an interesting logistical challenge and probably could be done I think its more a question of does it need to be done. I could see maybe still photos and stuff being intriguing to jerrys but i don't think NS would or should be the target market. Making an edit is such an awesome time and isn't just about the end product

I just recently looked into a cloud based camera system for my company and the company uses AI in their cameras that can tell the differences in peoples faces and locate people using it and the pan tilt zoom cameras can actually track that person and follow them. It could work in a ski resort using RFID tags on your pass or hypothetical "edit" pass, and the raw footage could be linked to your online account for purchase. Only issue is you lose the ability to get different angles, people blocking the cameras and the fact that the camera would be exposed near a feature where it could hit by Jerrys or become an obstacle if you come off a feature wrong.

Its a great idea on paper but in the real world its probably better left on a chairlift tower where dad jerry can get him and his kids picture taken coming up the chair and pay $50 for it at the top of the chair and have it emailed directly to him so he can awkwardly upload it to Facebook.

They do this in Italy for like the little public ski race course they have but its free, you just scan your pass to start the timer and you can check online for the footage. Whats weird is I never saw the camera when I did it and the camera managed to zoom and pan on me

Meaning - theoretically - there would be a computer program putting together the clips "live", as they happen during the day. It sure seems like the technology to make that work is out there these days.

On the one hand, I would be stoked if I could take a solo day and just do laps and mess around, and poof, there's quality footy of all my highlights waiting for me at the end of the day. But then on the other hand, I totally understand the sentiment about the magic of making an edit yourself, and it's true the cameras might be an eyesore or even an obstacle, and overall it could mean more Jerrys in the parks.

Interesting initial concept, now a different idea.
Like most austrian resorts and elsewhere have (usually sponsored by BMW, Audi etc.) a roped off ticket-gated section where there is something different to do, usually a 'speed check' or slalom gates,
I propose a selection of lines of features of different grades (to provide small alternatives to limit jerries side-jumping the proper features) in the park, with a cable-cam suspended over/beside the features with motion tracking so people can get drone-esque footage without the problems for resorts of actual drones, like weather, (amateur) pilots etc.

This concept would also work with existing roped features like I mentioned, just with an upgrade to the usual time/speed scoreboard and (if the resort has user-acessible online lift tracking) a static point video.

No need for editing, just a single, hopefully smooth, air-follow shot.

Yes having a roped section makes for a more difficult time shaping, esp if there is jumps/large features involved that require cat time, but decent parks have roping to separate sections anyway and so do the ticket-gated slalom etc sections and they have to take out and replace the gates for the course between grooming. The problem is park skiers not representing enough value for a lot of resorts for this kind of extra investment into a park. Realistically, If you're lucky, you might get it on a 'fun track'.

With a small enough, sheltered, park & smart enough camera you could use a 2D cable cam rig like in stadiums to cover the whole park.

his currently can work with just a camera that has an internet connection and a compute backend. No rfid tag or anything needed. this would be a dope idea to get some live shots of people. good marketing piece

I just mean "edit" as in the dictionary definition, "to choose material for (a movie or a radio or television program) and arrange it to form a coherent whole", which the computer would be doing "live" as those clips came in throughout the day. "Live edit" meaning that there is no secondary editing process, the final cut is coming together automatically as you film, or at least the final edit is generated so quickly at the end that it's virtually finished when you're finished skiing. But you get the idea.

This reminds me of an idea i had a while back but for lift lines. Your RFID pass would scan at the beginning of the line then at the lift and the time would be tracked. Each lift would be averaged for all pass holders and would route to a server. Then you could get an app on your phone to see the average lift line times and figure out what lifts to hit up next.

I wouldnt be surprised if ops idea gained traction in some form. I wouldnt expect it for a few years tho. If iwas going to pay for filming myself i would get a drone follow cam or have one of my friends follow cam me on a jump. The weightless look on follow cams are the true tits of ski footage.

If you really want a mindfuck you should get a drone that automatically follows you then get some VR goggles and run it to the drone camera so you can ski in 3rd person like a video game.
