Are 172cm too small for 6ft tall?

So I am 16 years old, 6ft tall, and 220lbs. I would consider myself as a intermediate skier. This past season was my first season and can land 180s no problem and even spin 3s once in a blue moon. I also live in ontario with no big jumps, mainly jibs. I have skied a set of 172cm Volkl Bash 86’s and was wondering if they were too small for me and if going to a larger ski will make me better or improve faster. Thanks so much :)

you will improve greatly with a ski sized to you. I would recommend at least 180cm ski especially given your weight. This will help with turn initiation, carving, stability, speed, float, flex. The 172s are over flexing and probably ski like crap for you now and that is just holding you back from improving.

Definitely too small. I’m 5’9, 165 and I rode 176 last season and I’m set for 181 Magnus 102’s this season. Henrik Harlaut is 5’6 ish and he rides 180 cm. I’d 100% recommend about 180 or above for you. You’ll be far more stable and won’t over power the skis being 220. God you’re a unit

What kind of pills are they giving you???!!! I’m 15 and only 5,4 110. I’ll trade you some skis if you can send those drugs down

The 172s are probably teaching you to be square on your skis especially with landing jumps, but that length of ski at your size is likely hitting its top speed before you are, and as a result likely preventing you from getting better. Shorter skis often fold rather than power through stuff and as you get better you really won't want to put up with that - even in Ontario.
People on here will always recommend a longer ski, but in this case I definitely agree. You could be on a 180-185 no problem.

I assume genetics? I mean I'm 17 and 205lbs and 6'3". Tall relatives are to blame I assume...
