Nickc88anyone know if the shortage of AR's (or just guns and ammo in general) in stock will slow down by November or will it get exponentially worse? I need to get a complete lower to finish an ar build so I need to decide if I should finish it while at college and deal with bs like getting storage, or if I should wait till I come home on early break.
Buy one asap. If you're not too picky, put some email alerts on palmetto state armory for something that will work. I've beeen seeing stuff restocked but every time it is, the price is going up. I've been seeing Aero restocking fairly regularly as well.
As far as ammo goes, $1/rd for .223 or 5.56 will be standard by September. Buy what you can now even if your build isn't finished.

My only regret is not getting a 6.5 CM, it’s capable of 1,000 yards but not as repeatable as my buddy’s 6.5 RPR
My rifle is in 6.5 creedmoor. Ive seen vids of tikka t3x ctr rifles in 6.5 cm getting 5 hits in a row on a torso size target at 1 mile. Most vids show 1000-1100 yard shots which is pretty solid too.

I REALLY like the mossberg 930 series semi autos. They are very inexpensive, run very well, are soft shooting and are easy to maintain and service. But it all depends on what you want. Semi auto? pump? budget? etc.

The biggest benefit you’ll see with handloading is that you are measuring by weight and not by volume...you weigh every powder charge yourself compared to a machine that is essentially dumping a scoop of powder (again, volume) into each piece of brass that comes down a line
Consistent powder weight leads to consistent muzzle velocity
I’ve pulled apart a box of 20 rounds (Federal Gold Medal Match) finding they vary by up to 1.5 grains and when handloading I can get that down to .1-.2 grains
There are similar inconsistencies with seating depth

Unsure on the price....but my dad picked up a new franchi affinity in a 12g semi....he loves it for duck. I've shit maybe 50 rounds through it and it seems super solid.
I have a Benelli Nova and it fucking sucks. Cheap POS. But that's what I paid for. I've heard the super Nova is a ton better though.
When I get back to hunting I'm taking my dad's old remi wingmaster...og and not the new versions....smooth and 10x better than my Benelli.

My gf and I plan to go gun shopping by election time. I’ll always been around guns and have done target shooting but it’s time to buy. Any recommendations? Looking to start small and move to rifles and shotguns once I have a gun safe and more room.

If yours is good, that is great. There's a lot documented online about firearms instructors seeing XD's fail more often than other guns. Aside from that, because springfield isn't the OEM of the gun, warranty work is hard to come by. If you need parts build tolerances are poor, so even if you can find replacement parts, they may not fit your gun.

Browning buckmark or ruger mark IV will be the most reliable semi auto .22's you can get and are awesome to shoot, new shooter or not.
A lot of time people try to sell women the smallest, lightest handgun but the more compact they are the harder they are to shoot. Any of the 9mm handguns I listed above will be great for a new shooter as well. See if you can find those guns I listed at a shop, hold them, align the sights and dry fire them (in a safe direction and after asking, of course) and find what is most intuitive for her (and you).
Ehh that was not my experience with Springfield when I owned an XDm. They had excellent customer service when I needed anything. Don’t own one anymore so I’m 100% impartial 🤷♂️

Biffs right about most well designed and ergonomically friendly 9mm’s not being too scary for first timers or females.
I will say the smaller you go, and the more polymer involved, you’re probably going to get decent recoil. I think biff mentioned the glock 43 and I hate shooting that thing. I’d go a little more “full size” and not compact cause the kick is what scares people.
For reference, my fiancé is pretty petite and she can handle the 9mm I keep in our bedroom just fine.

Just want to add any full size glock, biff mentioned smaller ones but I prefer the full size grip of a glock 17, 34, 45, 19x, etc. I dont have big hands but the full size grip is perfect for me shooting both or one handed, much prefer it over the compact 19. I only really shoot 9mm but whatever caliber you go with there are usually size and capacity options

Cool, I’m really just trying to build her confidence so it sounds like we need to do some research and go to a couple gun shops to figure out what will work best for her. Just stoked that she is down to get a gun and learn how to shoot.

When I first got into it, I was saving a bunch of money reloading 9mm but then there was an abundant supply and it just wasn’t worth the time since 9mm became really cheap
I was reloading .308 for a while at about 30 cents per round when buying a box of similar ammo would have been around $1.15 per round
I haven’t bought any supplies lately though and from what I’m hearing, brass/bullets/primers/powder are becoming scarce most likely driving that cost up

Its accurate as fuck at long range. Only round im aware of thats more accurate at lr is 338 lapua, but those cost like 4x as much per round than 6.5 creedmoor. Creedmoor is pretty damn cheap, without even considering how good its accuracy is.
as fare as stopping power i think it would take down anything up to the size of an elk. I wouldnt rely on it to kill a grizzly or a moose though.

Thanks for the advice! I have friends who swear by .270, but it seems like there isn't a good reason to bypass 6.5 CM in 2020. I would be hunting up to Elk as you described.
