JAHpow+1 for the Tikka T3
I have a Tikka T3 Lite stainless and love it. Very accurate, incredibly smooth bolt, comfortable stock.
Dustin, if you want something to hand down to your son in the future I'd get something in a nice wood stock. I think those are more aesthetically pleasing and more unique. No two wood stocks are the same. Synthetic is just basic plastic. All the same, nothing unique about them. My lite is synthetic, but any future bolt I get will be wood (unless im chassising out some build).
With all that in mind- Tikka T3 Hunter in .270. Or a T3 Forest if you're mounting a big tall scope.
However, the classic Remington 700 is probably the benchmark of a good rifle.
Also, my dad has a Ruger M77 Mountain Rife and that might be one of my favorite rifles.
SuspiciousFishSome badass shit...

TheHamburglarThat almost sounded like a fuckin M2 Browning
Jerry's timing is unreal. The bolt is barely closed when he fires again. The gun literally couldn't shoot any faster.
little1337Imagine doing that and having all the shots hit on target too, that's absurd
Dustin.Any add on pieces of advice for optics? That Tikka T3 looks awesome, never shot one and would really like to try it.

DolanReloadedWhy or how the fuck is this thing considered a pistol
JAHpowCheck around to see if there's any gun shops that allow you to try one out on a range. I was able to do that for a handgun.
As far as optics go, hard to go wrong with Leupold (that gold ring on a rifle really rounds it all out). A lot of people these days like Vortex too. Their warranty is killer. I would look for something in the 3-9 range or 4-12. 3-9 will work for like 90% of your shots. In terms of objective lens size, the larger the size, the more light is let in. Common sizes are 40, 42, and 50. With a 3-9 you'll be able to get away with 40 no problem. It starts to matter when you have a high-zoom scope. A reticle comes down to your preference. I have a duplex on my Tikka, works just fine for my short range deer hunting (last hunt I shot my deer at 40 yards). Ultimately, read reviews, search for recommended scopes based on what you're hunting most of the time. But a 3-9x40 scope is a good starting point.
Obvious alias is obvious
Right? That's the complicated ATF for you. The barrel is under 16", so it has to be either a pistol or a short barreled rifle (SBR). In the simplest of terms, the classification of an SBR or pistol comes down to its stock. If a standard adjustable stock is installed on the weapon, then it is classified as an SBR. It is intended to be shouldered (However, intent is not taken into consideration by the ATF). Classification as an SBR requires a $200 tax stamp, finger-printing, and registration. If a brace is installed on the weapon, then it is classified as a pistol. Since it's a brace, it is not intended to be shouldered, but it CAN be. (Again, intent does not come into play by the ATF, however). Classification as a pistol does not require anything further by the ATF. If the BRACE is modified in ANY WAY, it is then classified as an SBR and would be a federal crime to possess without having the tax stamp and other requirements.
In other words, the 10.3" barrel and the brace makes that a pistol.

Dustin.Good knowledge man, I didn't really know where to start with that type of optic. I get like 40% off of Vortex with their military deal so that may be a good way to go.

Dustin.I think the laws regarding pistols, SBRs, rifles, and "Any Other Weapons" got me fully on board with gun laws are a stupid waste of money and time. They just arbitrarily tax legal gun owners a little, but it's not even close to enough to cover what it cost the government to have the ATF do all their stuff. It's a huge waste of time to make people who don't understand firearms feel good. If someone wants to kill someone with a gun, they aren't going to do the research to figure out how illegal their gun is or isn't. To them a gun is a gun.
DesertStixJust playing devils advocate here as I’m a firearm owner as well but don’t you think if someone is going to premeditate a shooting spree that they aren’t going through the hurdles of obtaining or building an SBR, something suppressed, or fully automatic? Who applies for an NFA stamp to shoot up their workplace?
For a normal person such as yourself, it’s a hurdle but for someone who’s going to commit a crime I would call that too many steps and possible red flags raised by the alphabet bois.
JAHpowPretty sure you and Dustin are saying the same thing.
DesertStixMaybe I misread but it sounded like he thought the laws were pointless. I guess I live in a pretty 2A friendly state but don’t really have an issue with the current laws in place
JAHpowI don't want to speak for him, but it sounded like he thought the requirements regarding SBRs are silly, since they do nothing to keep criminals from making one. Instead, they only create, like you said, a hurdle for law abiders to jump over.
Personally, as you can see from my post above about the difference between a pistol and an SBR, I think the law is silly as well. Sure, I wouldn't have any problems going through the process of getting an SBR classification, but I'm also not going to use it for nefarious uses, so why am I the one who has to be regulated? A criminal, on the other hand, won't go through the process because why pay to make something legal when you're going to use it illegally?
DesertStixMaybe I misread but it sounded like he thought the laws were pointless. I guess I live in a pretty 2A friendly state but don’t really have an issue with the current laws in place
Dustin.I used to be in your boat honestly. I had no experience with it so it really didn't bother me. After building my first rifle I started questioning my thoughts on the subject, and after building a pistol and applying for a suppressor I was 100% against most all of the laws I've read about. They are highly ineffective and ridiculous. Hell, there have been people who are anti-gun hop on Youtube and demonstrate how they are going to "take an AR-15 off the streets" by cutting it in half. Several of them simply cut the barrel in half not even knowing that they technically just committed a felony by creating an SBR. Think of how stupid that whole situation is, you have to be a lawyer just to make a rifle 2" shorter these days under the guise of saving lives.
Now I'm against such regulations because they cost a lot of money to enforce and don't reduce crime. I suspect they are designed to make owning firearms more expensive, more difficult, and to increase legislation such that any infraction of that legislation can be documented as "gun related crime" for future anti-gun advocates. I was also very turned off by politicians I noticed making wild claims on the news that are so absurd there is no way they don't know they are lies. I want to hunt, I have a home defense weapon, and I like to shoot for sport. I shouldn't ever have to justify my desire to make my sons room an impossible place for a criminal to enter without opposition, and no one else should be able to make it difficult for me to do so because they don't like the color or shape of the weapon I choose.

T.L.As far as I know, there's never been mass shooting with a leagally obtained NFA item.
I'm not sure of there's ever been a murder.

SendyMcSendyfaceAnybody into birds? Thinking of picking up a cheaper O/U for grouse, getting kinda tired of lugging my bigass 12g through the woods. Also O/Us are sexy
SuspiciousFishStoeger and CZ USA make some. I cant comment on the quality though. I feel like its hard to make a real quality O/U and sell for under a grand. If you want some real sexy O/Us check out these guys. Yeah they cost the same as a car but damn they are pretty guns:

DolanReloadedTikkas are awesome. I like synthetic stocks more than wood ones though. Wood isnt as grippy or comfy. Theres such great synthetic materials out there.
