How is South America looking so far this season?

I need to cure my depression and powder skiing might be the only cure.
I can fly to South America as soon as September 1st.
Any suggestions where to ski?
Prefer back country/ off-piste/ big mountain sorta stuff.

Bariloche just got a big storm and the base looks pretty good. I saw some vid from Chillan over in Chile and they look like they got pretty good coverage as well. Not so good farther north like in Valle Nevado and Las Lenas. Lots of good touring around Bariloche, check out Frey Hut , you can hike there from the ski area (Cerro Catedral),

Flights to Santiago are $700 round trip from Nor Cal during the first two weeks of September,
Gonna just try to keep tabs on snow conditions as the dates get closer.

Do you have a multi resort pass? I don't know if epic has south american resorts but if I were going I'd have to hit up Valle Nevado if the conditions were halfway decent.

I have an IKON, but regardless lift tickets are the least expensive part of the equation.
Gonna keep watching storms and see where we end up by September...

I get it. Sounds nice but if you look at it another way the money you're spending on lift passes could be spent on food, hotel, libations, whatever. I usually look at the per person per day cost of a trip when comparing destinations.

Nothing against south america I honestly haven't skied there so not sure how its like. But club felids such as Mt Olympus and Craigieburn have great vibes to them and is perfect fore the back country/ off piste/ big mountain stuff you're looking for.

Nothing against NZ but food, chicks, and cultural exprience are way better in SA. I guess if you like riding rope tows and and speaking english, NZ is the spot, don't forget your nutcracker!!

I didn't look it up but OP mentions $700 round-trip tickets to Santiago, I doubt fares to NZ are that low.

Looking at going mid-September and I have heard varying reports of what this season is like.
Friend visited Portillo last week and said it was still very low tide.
Not worth spending 1000's to ski groomers, but if its not too late in the season I would travel for some pow.
Anyone been to Caviahue?
