If your gonna be moving around that much maybe. Not sure the paperwork for a out of country citizen in NZ.
Then you also have to sell it before you leave to.
I used transfercar for when I was over there. They let move cars for rental companies. I think they prefer you to be 25 years old though.

Yes, I remember seeing reasonable priced cars on the North island when I was there last September. I am not sure the process to purchase or the requirements needed but if you will be there long enough to justify owning a car than yes, buy one. You will just have to sell it or give it away when you leave. I had a friend do that in Hawaii.
