TnskiLooks like we just shot down an Iranian drone. Eye for an eye I guess.
TnskiHope not, I don't even want to think of what an expensive mess that would be.
.frenchyhazard pay, tax free paychecks, bonuses, family separation pay, etc
the unit i'm in now was the first unit to storm and take baghdad, and you damn right we will do it to tehran
TnskiWhat's another trillion $, much respect for your and everyone else's service keeping us all safe but damn what a can of worms it would be.
eheathYeah instead of spending billions of dollars over oil (which is useless) we should invest that into climate change and funding other sources of energy. Oh the things the USA could do if we spent 50% less on the military.
I as well respect and appreciate current military and veterans, we wouldn't be the country we are today without our armed services. I think it's important to spend money on the military as well, but we should avoid any conflict in the middle east, at least to a point, nobody wants 2003 again.
TnskiSpend the money on incentives for people buying electric vehicles
I'm sure theres alot of aholes in Irag but feel really sorry for the good innocent people having some of their structures destroyed.
Peace is always the best solution.
.frenchylove to see it.
lets invade that bitch like its 2003 in Baghdad again

skierman"Duurrrr I'm part of the infantry group who invaded Iraq and blew up farmers and children from armored vehicles... did I mention this was years before I even joined the Army? I'm like so xxxccorreeee!!!"
_GHOSTBro he's infantry. Wtf.
BiffbarfAt first I was hating on you for bringing that up out of the blue, now I kinda understand.
I thought he was just proud of his service as many are, but he's achieved total boot status.
_GHOSTThe kinda guy too wear multicam cap 5.11 pants and Solomon boots in public.
It's cool to serve but be humble.
TnskiAnyone following this? Dont know why they just dont pay for the drone. Its what civilized people do.
_GHOSTWe get it you're infantry
TnskiWw2.5?
BigPurpleSkiSuitMy thoughts on the matter:
1. If Soleimani was developing a real, new threat and needed to be taken out, the mossad could have done it without a trace instead of Trump literally waving the U.S. flag over his corpse
2. Trump and Netanyahu are both wannabe strongmen facing major investigations, what better way to stay in power than start a real war
3. Iran has powerful allies. It's not just the US versus Iran, it's the U.S. versus Iran backed by Russia, North Korea and many others, in effect making this a legitimately unwinnable war.
4. If anyone is crazy enough to give Iran a Nuke and they suspect they might actually go down, you can be that is getting aimed straight at Tel Aviv
TLDR: Soleimani's assassination was the result of 2 corrupt leaders trying to save their own sorry hides, and while he deserved to die, we may be dragged into a legitimate War against true opposition
DirtYStylEI am really surprised the US refrained from entering another war
TnskiI think there's a motive to benefit Russia somehow, like what happened in Syria

theabortionatorIdk. I like America, plenty of cool places and people. The thing that grinds my gears is the "We're the fucking best! We don't need to learn anything!" angle a huge amount of the people rock. If people in America were stubborn cunts, and open to the possibility of learning things/making changes, maybe America would truly be as great as some people think it is.
Also pretty dope when we fuck people over on education and health care, but then can always come up with another trillion for the "defense" budget. America is decent, it could be great, but it will never be the way some people are going.
CaseyThe United States is basically the thin blue line between Russian and Chinese hegemony, and for all our faults those fuckers don’t even pretend to care about democracy or human rights, so pick your poison.
HYP3R_REAL1TYIt’s like a modern day Franz Ferdinand
eheathpeople are posting ww3 like theyre fucking excited or something
BST_PoliceClearly history class has done nothing. I remember when Russia took over Crimea and people were posting the same shit. We can pretty much guarantee that if and when WW3 happens, it will be fought on all the major continents including NA assuming we don't just all nuke each other first.... All these kids playing too much COD getting excited don't realize they'll prob be first to draft and be the meatshields if push comes to shove. Then you've got your "come and take it" folks. Yeah America would be a difficult country to invade with all our guns but to those who post excitedly about that, I'll just say it won't be fun if that ever happens.

TnskiRelax there will never be a "ww3" go smoke a bowl or something
LonelySo apparently trump asked Iraq to mediate with Iran on the U.S. behalf. Soleimani was going to meet with the Iraqi prime minister to negotiate when he got capped. So it sounds like, or at least looks like, that we baiting Soleimani with negotiation to take him out.
YIKES
If he’s a danger to America I don’t know why we wouldn’t just take him out discreetly. We already do that and have been doing that. We basically are shouting “Hey guys we just assassinated a general of another country that we aren’t at war with after baiting him with deescalation talks which at the least is murder and may be a war crime! Look at us!”
Dustin. What are these discrete strikes you are talking about? You don't have to send in the SEALs every time a target meets CDE, we've had an air presence in Iraq constantly while fighting back ISIS since 2014.
Assassinate? This isn't a political or religious justification, he's a military target.
Soleimani was a fucking terrorist, you can call him a General if you really want, but either way he's a lawful target just like if one of our Generals had been killed there by an enemy. This dude made a career out of IEDs and other popular forms of terror that targeted American soldiers and civilians by the thousands. Recently he's led the charge to ramp it up. It is a fucking fantastic thing that he's gone, it's like taking out Bin Ladin (remember when we did that in Pakistan and Pakistan was mad and acted like they didn't know he was down the street from their military academy? Weird how that works). Furthermore, this attack isn't even abnormal from the military perspective. Lawful target/terrorist/general/whatever helps you sleep at night in Iraq actively planning to kill good guys. Drop.
You could make a strong argument for why we should leave Iraq, but trying to make an anti-Trump campaign with this scenario just doesn't make sense. We all know he's a jackass on Twitter. It is pretty funny that Iran is vowing to retaliate when they already have plans made by Soleimani and that's the whole reason he was killed, as if they aren't already doing things like this. Apparently they forgot about bombing civilian ships and shooting down American drones in international water this year too? "Retaliate", right. More like "business as usual for Iran".
LonelyIs he a military target if we aren't at war with them?
American lives are at risk in countries we are involved in. If we weren't involved in said countries then american lives wouldn't be at risk. An argument could be made that there is always a risk but there are many things you are at a much greater likelihood of dying of on american soil besides terrorist attacks.
At the end of the day trump always has the power to say no. We don't know what he stopped, but this action has increased tensions. I don't think that killing him is going to stop any sort of plotting, and if anything it will accelerate it. What I see is another war in the middle east where Americans will die and there is no visible exit from.
I think it's better if we aren't involved at all. At the end of the day, even with everything else that has happened we still killed a citizen of a country we aren't at war with outside our borders. That doesn't respond positively on us. I've always thought a modified version of tit for tat is the best military policy.
You bring up some good points, but I still think that this killing creates more problems than it solves.
