When did you realize you were all grown up

I’ll be 21 next month and I still feel like I’m 16.

Just recently realised that I am an adult and a man at that. I can literally do whatever I want and have the financial means and motivation to do so. However I like my current job. It's a challenge, which I think is what a lot of people lack in life.

Life isn't meant to be comfortable, you are not meant to be happy all the time. A man needs struggle to know who he really is.

I just turned 23 and I can’t relate with op at all, I stopped reading after “I’m only 19, mind you.”

Realised this when i came home again after backpacking aussy and nz for almost 2 years. When i had to go and find a "real" job etc. So now i work in IT get up at 6am weekdays to drive to and from work 1hr each way to make a bit of money... The contrast was so big so specially in the beginning i struggeled to get used to a normal life again :(

Im 31, Professional Marine Engineering Officer for the Desgagnes Fleet. Still have a junior certificate, but work often as a senior engineer. Been at this for 10 years now. I still save my winters for skiing (and nothing but skiing for 140 days).
I was "kicked" out of my parents place when I turned 19 and had to fend for myself. The first week was tough, the sudden feeling that no one will back you up and the feeling of dread from the possibility of losing my apartment was the toughest feeling to overcome. As long as work contracts are coming in, I get to live like a spoiled child.
As a teen, I thought I was a street punk; roaming the streets, getting drunk and holding down dead end jobs felt like a good life for me until I had to move out. As long as I could pay for booze, my parents always payed the rest. But, I came to realize that life is expensive and needed a career with room for advancement.
When money started to pile up from years of working and saving, I invested more in my passions; buying 3000$ ski set up, dropping 6000$ on a mtb and getting a 40,000$ car... I never slowed down. I promised myself that I will be 18 for the rest of my life, but that number got bumped up to 21 because I feel more aware of my situation and a little wiser. However, staying true to myself...that has never changed.

I guess the event that made me feel old is when I washed, waxed and did a complete cleaning of my new car this year. Nobody told me to do it...I did it to make the car look nicer and classier. Same thing can be applied to most of my possessions; I want to keep up with them to make sure they last a long time. I was always a dirtbag...but cleanliness is starting to enter my personality.

I still dont feel old at all. In fact, Im more active that most adults and teens. I still ski, bike, climb, hike, camp, explore and take up new passions (this year was prospecting) while learning a new language and trades from work. I still have so much drive in me and ambitions are still limitless!
I do feel old as fuck when most girls I tried dating my age still live with their parents and work at a fast food joints while being addicted to night clubs, social media and sleezing around.

"Real" jobs are overrated. Especially if you hate what you do.

My 40th Birthday..... a few years back, it hit me that morning when my wife had the card there and it had the big 40 on it. It was kind of a kick in the growing in a way, I thought ugh, I am that old guy now, I always had that thought of 40 is old and I now I was there. I had to tell myself, it is just a number, I am active, I bike, ski, skate, hike, camp, all that I can do with my family so I don’t feel old, I am just numerically old.lol here I am a few years later and I don’t necessarily feel old, I would like to think I am young, I can still kick my oldest sons ass and he is a Sophmore in college.lol

I could probably write a book on this topic but I will leave space for the others. Now get off my fucking lawn!haha

Turned 37 a month ago. Man was it weird. I still try to ski sometimes but now I'm more focused on making money to support my kids so they can experience skiing. I have a very average job but at a certain point I realized that you get out what you put in. I'm good friends with my co-workers and get to relax and do stuff around the house on the weekends while enjoying much more expensive beer than what I drank in college. Life can be shitty but you've got to remember that when you hit the bottom it's only up from there. Thanks to my hard work I can look forward to spending a week out at vail with my beautiful wife and two kids. I'm blessed.

Honestly, I realized this 3 days after my 16th birthday when I was accepted in Harvard for Law. I'm just not like the other kids at my school and I matured as a man right there. Many people always ask me how I was able to get into Harvard as a 16 year old who skipped 3 grades of high school. They think I got in because of my scholarly records, but no the key is the interview. As I sat in the Harvard Dean's office in front of the board of reviewers for my application, the Dean asks me "Why should you be a good candidate for this school?" They seemed bored but I replied "Well I was born a child prodigy, placed 1st in my state spelling bee for three consecutive years, I can speak eight different languages not counting Latin, play four different instruments, I skipped grades 4 through 6, and graduated my high school as valedictorian at the age of 14. I then worked as an intern at both Telsa, and NASA." Suddenly the room burst into laughter and many of board instantly started scribbling down "No" near the application check marks. The Dean says "Sorry but you are just not the type we are looking for." But then I said "Excuse me but I wasn't finished... I watch Rick and Morty" The Dean looked at me like an idiot and said "So....?" Then I replied with a smile "And I understand all the references and subtle jokes" An audible gasp let out by the board was so loud the secretary had to come in. You could hear a pin drop and then suddenly all at once the entire board clicked their pens on the "Approved Box" and I was instantly handed a diploma and now I'm teaching advanced physicals there. I guess you can say I'm pretty smart. :)

Hahaha i ask myself the same question very often. At the moment im in the process of getting a working holiday visa for canada and hope to escape to canada for a while soon :)!

when i was 19 yrs old, the weekend manager at a sears store, struggling to pay for my ski bum life. it just kinda hit me when i was unloading a semi truck full of appliances. (20 rn for reference)

must be nice to have parents pay for rent, gas, food, ski tickets, equipment and clothing. would have nothing to worry about except skiing.

Gee I hope you’re right I don’t plan on doing this whole Ft thing much longer. I just need something to start off with, and I get paid pretty good just as an apprentice electrician in Oregon. I just wanna stack then kick back I’ll do anything to be able to say I’m earning significant money and not having to work 8+ hours a day! I want to be that guy on the hill who the liftees see like everyday and wonder “wtf does this guy do”
