Does x games big air force the skiers to use poles?

Eh I’m a pretty big pole guy (no homo) but I wouldn’t enjoy this at all. All the tricks would look the same.

im pretty sure the olympics did, maybe some other event. i remember henrik saying something about the pole requirement and also him not even grabbing his poles and letting the wrist straps do the work for him which was fucken dope as hell

it's ski big air... poles no poles... everyone does the same trick anyway.. who all remembers the switch 10 contest... big air needs a new format. like i get the spin left, spin right but i think max rotation for the heats and like no dubs until finals.

I've always thought one round or jump or whatever should be dedicated to a "style trick." It could be like a list of 10 OG tricks (Straight air, 0 spin, Cork 3, Cork 7 blunt, etc.) that riders choose from are soley judged on style before they get to the round of triples and quads.

Or similar to gymnastics/diving, the contestants could submit a specific trick before hand and get judged on on that trick alone and how stylish they make it look/execute.

Idk just some ideas because Big Air comps really need to be shaken up and I dont think spin both ways is the best answer

Forcing skiers to attempt a set list of tricks was exactly the reason our whole sport started in the first place.

If you watched any x games big air (and other events) in the last couple years, you'd see multiple people not using poles, men and women.

Lol wut? I'm pretty sure the advent of freeskiing had much more to do with the development of terrain parks for snowboarding than people trying to break out of the contest mold, which came later down the road.

Refreshing big air (or any park skiing comp) should never be about changing the rules, adding spin caps, requiring multiple directions, etc. because ultimately these are just adding restrictions to a sport created with the intent of freedom and letting you pick literally any trick you want to do. It needs to be focused on the judging - so long as the judges keep rewarding tre bombs as the top tricks, that's all we'll see. Are triples some of the hardest tricks? Probably. Are triples some of the most technical jump tricks? Probably. Does that make them the best tricks? No way, so much of skiing is grace, style, creativity, deliberately lower rotations etc. whatever. We just have to redefine what the "best" tricks on a big air jump are, not just rewarding for difficulty and rotations... Let the dudes who want to do triples keep doing triples, but also give more value to the dudes who want to spin anything from a 7 to a dub 12.
