nolliebackflipThese pros be travelling around the globe while crying 'bout climate change. I dont have a solution cause they wouldn't be pros without travelling :(
Crust_StationHomophobia, transphobia and misogyny that seems to be so deeply ingrained in the action sports community.
Inb4 someone mentions Gus Kenworthy.
its impossible to ski through a park without hearing people call shit gay or discredit great skiers because theyre female, etc.
Important to me because Im a queer person
DercumDogsIt’s 2019 no body cares who you bang
Crust_StationYou’d think that, but apparently we havent caught on to that wave yet
DercumDogsIt’s in your head no body cares literally no body cares it’s a nonissue
Crust_StationIm sorry but you’re not correct about this homie. I work full time at a ski resort and I see this shit every single day. Gay kids getting bullied for being gay, transphobia all over the place. Little things like the way we use language. All of it is damaging. Sure you can pretend that these problems dont exist but you’re just ignoring them.
We actually had an incident where a coach was telling kids they look faggoty and need to buy new kits, those kids went on to call the younger kids faggoty or trans for wearing “girls” colors. This shit happens and it isnt good for impressionable kids or the scene in general. Maybe theres a reason that skiing is the least diverse community out there but lets not pretend that it isnt.

If this conversation was in person I would kick your ass.
Mtuhockey33They keep jacking up lift ticket prices but don’t do shit for their employees. They treat their employees that keep things running the worst and don’t give them adequate work wear (Aspen Snowmass’ employees don’t even have waterproof Helly Hansen work wear). They’re constantly understaffed and will hire temp workers at $2/hr more than their full time employees. They own the employee housing but keep jacking up housing costs while giving their employees that have been there for years $.25 raises. It’s a joke. I could keep going on and on but I’ll stop. /rant.
edit: I totally forgot that Aspen and all their “environmental” bullshit are still going to turn wildlife conservation land into a new lift and a brand new hotel that we definitely need 🙄

LivingDaLifeAnd Aspen pays much better than most resorts...I'd be making over twice as much there.
Cost of living in mountain towns is ridiculous, it's hard to be a ski bum any more.

Mtuhockey33Best part is that they’re giving a $1.50 raise to starting pay but nothing to kids who’ve been here for years. There were kids in their first season making more than kids who have been working for the company for years. They keep cutting benefits (free ski passes for friends, mental help visits for people that need it, bonuses for lifties) and wonder why nobody wants to work there. Aspen is better than most but it’s still worse than any other job I’ve had in any other field. It’s not getting better; it’s only going downhill from here.
LivingDaLifeVail did the same thing last year - raised their minimum wage (because the state of CO passed an increased minimum wage) but didn't bump pay for anyone who'd been there for years. Of course, Wendy's still pays a better starting wage than Vail.

CrackHead.Andy Parry was talking about this on a chairlift ride, he was saying how everybody in the van driving cross country saves so many emissions and so much money (he actually did out the math I dont remember) I don't know much about it but he was getting deep about climate change some actually care.

DesertStixYou’re honestly a really large heap of stinking dog shit for telling someone who goes through a tough situation you know NOTHING about to “toughen up the world doesn’t revolve around you”
And seriously how are we down voting someone for this? You are straight up proving this users point.
ParryWithAnAThis. Definitely dont like IG for many reasons. The biggest one being companies will use it as an end all metric and discount everything else. I had a pervious sponsor not want to pay me the full contract amount because the accounting lady (who doesn't have any clue about freeskiing) looked at my IG and say, "I dont see what you did for us last year." Discounted me rocking the product, using the @, giving out product on TAFT, skiing with it in TC, and sending well over 50 peices of content that they never shared.
This shit drives me up a wall. A IG model/kinda skier made a post about flying to Norway to ski and is also a POW ambassador. She got called out, and got all pissed. Her carbon footprint for that trip (just the plane ride) was about equal to 4 of us driving from the west coast to the east in the TC van. YOU CANT SKI AND TRAVEL THE WORLD AND BE A GOOD AMBASSADOR FOR COMBATTING CLIMATE CHANGE. We are all peices of shit for being part of an industry that isn't sustainable for the environment. Dont act like you AREN'T part of the problem and own up to it. Donate to down ticket democratic candidates if you want to so something. NOT PEOPLE/ORGANIZATION that eat up a % of donations, or the crooked DNC.

bennwithtwonsHave any of you that are renting in mountain towns experienced a hard time finding a place to live for an affordable rate?
For those of you who are also landlords in mountain towns, what kind of tenants do you rent to?
AbiH!

apapel20IMO, almost all sports are just becoming more and more expensive, and big companies catering to spec nuts and marketing departments, both skiing and mountain biking. Kinda depressing, and it takes the soul out of the sports themselves. Would love to see one of the bigger underdog ski brands just take off and change the business
yungonathis is so true. i used to be able to go to big sky during the winter but its literally way to expensive
apapel20I know, right? I ski in MN and Afton selling itself out to Vail really took the life out of the place. It just turned into a marketing tool, and the only reason it is still surviving is it is the closest to the cities. Although the park is still quite nice, place lost its local feel.
Mtuhockey33Dude Aspen Ski Co is charging their employees $600/month per person to live in a trailer 30 minutes away from the mountain. That’s their “affordable” housing. A trailer. The whole trailer rocks when someone’s having fun. Otherwise good luck finding a spot for under $1,500 in Snowmass Village and under $2,000 in Aspen. It’s impossible to find cheap housing out here because, as you said, the billionaires are buying out the millionaires, the millionaires are moving into where the middle class used to live (little towns north of Aspen), and now even Glenwood (an hour north of Aspen) is charging $1,000/month for rent.

DesertStixImo this is all a trickle down effect of the sports barrier of entry like already mentioned. Skiing only caters to people with money so of course billionaires will be buying the real estate as opposed to middle class folks. The latter don’t go skiing because they can’t afford to take their family somewhere that charges 100-150/person a day just to be there. Then factor in the gear and other costs like travel etc and you’re stuck with a relatively small pool of customers. Wealthy ones who attract their wealthy friends...
yungonathis makes me so glad my local hill is a non profit
DesertStixPretty lucky. Hope it stays that way. Doesn’t mean the real estate prices around your hill can’t skyrocket. Being in Idaho is pretty unique though. Not very accessible.

Grindy_McSliderListen douchenozzle, we don't give a flying fuck what you do in your bedroom. IF you are getting triggered by some words you need to grow up. I work at a place that is very inclusive and they constantly tell me to castrate myself because I am a white male. I laugh because they are ones being divisive. If you let words affect you emotionally you are in for a rough time in this world. It's not all sunshine and rainbows.
