Anyone have a project car or truck they are building?

54’ Chevy 3 window I got few weekends back. Took me a while to find exactly what I wanted. Yanked it out of a field on some Indian reservation in Far East Utah.

Got to button up my home remodel first. But this winter I’ll dive into the truck. Will keep original pantina look but everything underneath and under hood will be new. More rat rod then OG look. I’ll find a small block and trans. Posi rear. Custom front and driveshaft. Will lower it some but will not be on bags. I’m excited to have a money pit but eventual awesome weekend Main Street summer cruiser.

Looks like a bad ass project!! Dig the idea of just leaving the paint the way it is, small block, auto trans, good geared rear end, dont forget to do some decent disc brakes on it(going to have to stop too). Ive got a little 72' GMC 1/2 ton I have owned for almost 25 years(First auto I owned) that I need to get out of storage and get some fresh fluids in. Would love to build a Rat Rod sometime, building an old Harley Shovelhead at the moment so that is taking some of the spare time and money at the moment. Good luck and I would like to see the progress as you go. Also, if you need a specialty part or anything, hit me up, I have a few connects that can get some of that old shit.

Yup, she will have disc breaks all around!

I have a 69’ c-10 long bed that i learned to drive on back in the sticks. 3 on the tree. Was going to originally restore that but it’s way to far gone. East coast truck and rust. This one has 1 rust spot about 4”x4” bottom door panel. Easy fix. Rest is surface rust. Things solid. I’m happy.

I bought an 89’ f-150 when I wanted to drop out of high school. It was the single cab short bed with the 5.0 V8. Had the 2 tone red and tan paint. So I sanded it down and filled the dents and rust. About 20 cans of matte black duplicolor later all the guys at my school wanted a ride.

Dope ride dude. I'm goin out tomorrow to pick up a car I've been looking for for a long time. 1998 Volvo V70, factory stick. Gonna be my daily for now, but I'm gonna drop a turbo engine in it this summer, and do some more shit when I buy a truck next year. I'll post pics when I pick her up.

I have a 97 land cruiser that desperately needs rust repair in the rear end and has 287,XXX miles. Runs like a champ and even killed it off road with stock tires, but the rear suspension is fucked so highways and aggressive throttle is real sketch. Have also been looking at 1FZ-FE turbo kits on ebay that in theory would make some ridiculous power, though forced induction by way of a supercharger would probably be the more responsible way to go.


Has anyone ever tried twin charging by running a crank belt to the compressor wheel for the best of both worlds? Would probably be really difficult to do without a machine shop but maybe someone on this site knows a thing or two about manufacturing.

02 4x4 ford ranger for less than 2k is turning into a project truck. My daily (first and only) vehicle needs work done on a daily basis.

Brakes have locked up, floorpan rusted out (I can see the road)

Im running on a shoestring budget, and broke one of the leaves in the driver side rear spring. Is it it possible to weld back together with some bracing using a cheapo 120v 200a stick welder and some 6013?

Just hoping for it to last the summer.

2wd? Are you going to be doing off roading or just basic driving on paved roads? Basic driving you could just remove the loose spring and drive it(going to be a little bit soft on that side) but if you plan on taking it off any jumps,lol, or hauling anything heavy buy a used one off a junk yard and replace it.

Update! Lots of work gets done so when you’re old lady leaves and you work from home cuz of corona flu

New front end in this past weekend. Just mocked and checked for alignment. Finish all the welding tomorrow probably now that’s it’s checked and good. Fully custom frame all finished. Rear suspension coming this week. Got a rear end already. Once that’s all complete and air ride in I’ll look for engine and trans!!!

my buddy has a 1984 saab 900 turbo 5spd manual that he got over the summer. it runs and drives but we’re doing some work on it and hope to get it restored fully

Not mine but my 17 year old brother has and 82 Rabbit thats a pretty cool rolling project. He built the roof rack himself and also redid the timing and entire brake system himself. Sees old vdubs as a career path so good for him.

You know boat stands for Bill Out Another Thousand right? Haha, I worked in the marina business all through high school and college summers. Used to call those engines EverScreweds. Good luck, boats can be projects and a half!!

78 70 hp evinrude probably the most reliable outboard, I had the same one a while ago and went out hundreds of times with no issues the boat's another issue, pretty solid just lots of little things so yea b.o.a.t.

Used to have a 97, i have a 2003 now. Never reached that mileage on the 97. Right now i have 2003 with ~245,000 miles. Ive had the same wheels since 03 so im looking at wheels rn. LC gang gang

Nope, it’s like a sin to paint a original pantina truck like this. I actually searched a long time to find one in this shape with that pantina.

I have a ‘72 C10, has a 350 v8 now. Redoing the suspension with some qa1 goodies and painting the frame now, and getting ready to put a 5.3 or 6.0 LS and a 4L80e in. Going for a similar look of a hot rod type build. Love your patina, mine was a Kansas farm truck so it has some patina you can see up close but not nearly as spectacular as the paint job nature put on your truck.

Good looking truck!! Is it a Cheyenne? Factory AC, tilt, bucket seats? I have owned a few of these through the years and still have a little orange GMC very similar to yours.

Yup it’s a Cheyenne, all of the things you said like factory ac and tilt. I would keep it stock and rebuild the 350 but I’ve been learning about tuning and want to apply it. Also I just picked up a one owner 87 gmc with a crazy patina that’s going to get a turbo or two, which should be a blast

That thing looks good!! I have a 69’ c-10 long bed back home where I grew up. Was gonna restore that but she’s to far gone.


LS motor will be nice in that. I was always amazed at how big the engine bays are on those trucks. Sky is the limit for a motor!!!

Nice, if you want to make it a good daily driver, the LS is a good swap. Have fun working on them and happy hot rodding!

Not much to show just a hole in the bottom of my boat and the part that goes in it. Basically plugging up the hole instead of fiberglassing it over.

Thanks. Why did you decide to plug it instead of maintaining the thru-hull and whatever iy was used for? I'm working on a thru-hull on a boat of mine right now.

It had a leaky valve on it that I couldn't get off so I just ground it off and started with new stuff

Have not posted in here for a while. She’s getting close to done.

She runs. Idols great. Engine is 400 small block. New headers, custom exhaust, all new starter, alternator, belts and pulleys, distributor, carb, radiator, etc...
