Any advice on dropping out

I know school can be tough and very challenging.......... Tough it out, hang in there. Its like learning a new trick that kicks your ass every time you try it, it hurts, its painful, it may take you a few seasons to figure it out but the reward for sticking the trick is priceless. School is the same, stick it out, get your diploma I reassure you you will benefit from it later in life. If anything, get your GED if you cant do school. Employers look at this and if you cant do school, then you probably cant do work. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck homie.

The point is that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs didn't drop out just because they didn't like college and had a "fuck school" mentality. They did because they had a plan and felt like they had more important things to do and didn't want to waste any time getting their big idea off the ground. They dropped out to take on a much larger challenge and were ready to work 10x harder than what college required.

Bottom line is that if you want to drop out because school is too hard and you'd rather chill, then you're very likely making a huge mistake and should tough it out to get your diploma.
If you want to drop out because you have some big project you've been working super hard on and you want to use the time to fully focus on this instead of attending class, then maybe.

Just tell everyone you graduated. Nobody actually checks, trust me. Learn a trade or something.

Here’s my advice... Grow a pair and don’t drop out. School is as hard/easy as you make it.

School teaches you to think, and work through. If your in high school, its not hard to get B's and C's. I do like 20 minutes of homework a night max and I have straight A's. College is a little different, but the more education you get, the more opportunity you have.

If you're dropping out its likely because there's a root cause, be it second thoughts about your major/path, physical or mental illness, addiction, isolation or just indifference toward your future and your life.

I strongly suggest you think about your future, you're not gonna be 19 or whatever forever.

I changed my major 4 times before I finally chose to pursue a CS technology degree. Tech has a future, and so does anyone who works in tech. I haven't even graduated and I'm living off ad revenue from a simple mobile app I wrote last summer.

Even though you're dropping out, I'm sure you still have an opportunity to go back and take another shot, so address whatever it is that's causing your problems now, and take it.

I live in a pretty high income state, plus I was part of a pretty snobby elitist network (Thiel Fellowship) out of HS which encompassed everything from Harvard students to HS dropouts to the founder of Ethereum.

Most 25 year olds I knew from that are taking a 40-70k job out of college and paying back their loans or bootstrapping a startup. SOME did make 100k-130k with no degree in SF only to live in a shoebox apartment or split a house with 5 people just to get by on the astronomical rent.

You may live in an area with a lot of inherited wealth or mommy and daddy cash. But I inherited nothing, bought my first Rolls Royce (old one so nothing special) at 22 through working at the post office and investing.

Imma double dropout lollllll First time it was to work HVAC, 100 percent hated that shit. FUCK YOU RICK. Went back, Dropped out again upon getting a full time job offer from Donald Pliner.. it was so tight!!! Plus they couldn't have taught me any of the random tech-bullshit i did for them daily... even if i went to school for I.T.!!!!! Because ALL of their infrastructure was outdated asf! I learned most by being there and wanting to learn.


What i'm saying, Is just be sure to have a job ready to take you upon leaving school.. Friends/Family members might have some leads for ya. Todays day in age theres ALOT of knowledge that is SUPER valuable to the company but ISNT taught in a classroom. Focus on what YOU do best, and are not stressed out by.

" in 2016 the median earnings of young adults with a master's or higher degree were $64,100, some 28 percent higher than those of young adults with a bachelor's degree ($50,000). In the same year, the median earnings of young adults with a bachelor's degree were 57 percent higher than those of young adult high school completers ($31,800). So a young adult couple with a Bachelor's degree will, on average, make $100k/year. Not sure where you live but $200k/year is def way above average.

I run my own company , own a handful of rental units and work for another , I dropped out and I do well but I slave 8 months of the year , it’s not just $ , I believe the quality of life is much better for the folks with degrees , and you can choose , whereas I had to take what I was doing and learning after dropout in construction and start my own and I know I’d of had greater opportunities and a different life , maybe not better as it’s now kinda where I like , but different

And for someone struggling to get through school, this is not a motivated person , they may not b likely to persevere and work hard enough , for some it may only b social , some may b so stoopid it doesn’t matter if they get a degree they’ll spend their doh on a rolls at 22 😊, but they should also get a degree , some may not b able to zero in on what they wanna do and forego HS or college bc of this

If your so set on getting to work , then do it , but finish HS , consider a degree while working and progress and move in the direction you choose

So did Mark Zuckerberg among many others but what you're forgetting is that these people were very very intelligent people. Many dropped out of ivy league schools, not your run of the mill state school or community college or high school. They would have been very rich and successful no matter what they did. It's just they magnified their earning potential by founding empires on seriously good ideas. They cashed in on technology rushes and novel ideas in perfect times. They had a plan. They had really good plans even if it was hard in the beginning.

OP don't drop out. I know there's people here who dropped out of various levels of school and they may or may not be doing well for themselves. They bust their ass every day to be the best they can at their trades. The point is it's a risk and unless you have a super good plan, you're betting against a pretty sure reality.

I know way too many high school and college dropouts that completely ruined their lives and will probably never go back. If you drop out of high school, kiss your life goodbye. Literally. You'll actually have a shorter life expectancy. If you drop out of college, there's a potential that you can be widely successful but you also have to have the knowledge, determination, and grit to persist to the finish line. It will be much more difficult. It isn't as easy today to drop out of college and be successful as it was 50 years ago. You can't work your way up from stock boy at a supermarket to VP of a company anymore.

Before you make any rash decisions, consider some of these things: WHY do you want to drop out? Really the why? Does the why make sense? Write down the pros and the cons on an actual sheet of paper and consider them. What is your plan after you drop out? How will you fulfill your financial obligations, debts, pay for a car, health insurance, car insurance, food, housing, etc to name a few? The world won't stop because you do. Maybe you just need to take a different direction without dropping out? Do something that you have a passion for by weaving your education into it. There's nothing more fulfilling than waking up every day and doing something you love; if that means dropping out, consider the risks first. Or use your education to fund your hobbies and passions like many of us.

And please don't "take a break for a semester". I don't know a single person who came back after they took a break.

This guy has a point. College these days is fucking retarded expensive. It's a travesty. A college degree isn't the glory it used to be years ago. They're a dime a dozen. You can sleep through class and come out with a B.S. in many majors. The future income potential is what you make of it after you graduate. The degree is just a ticket to get through the door to try and prove yourself, whereas you might never have been given a shot without it. If money is your issue, consider transferring to a cheaper school. I never really understood how people want to go to a school that costs so much when their future income will not nearly be enough to ever pay it off. Maybe live at home during it? Live at home after for a few years to pay off your loans. There's no shame with that. Consider your spending habits to find ways to minimize your loans (e.g. cheaper books, housing, food, partying, etc). I had a friend who lived at home with his parents for 2 years after school and paid off his entire loan balance (just gonna say it was a lot). I'll be paying til I'm nearly 35 because I am on my own and just going the forgiveness route. But don't get me wrong, I'm still way more financially comfortable than most even after my monthly debts are paid and maxing retirement. It would be a totally different story if I dropped out.

OP idk if you're in HS or college, but if you're in college, I can tell you there were plenty of times that I wanted to quit. I was fed up with the bullshit. The stupid projects. The seemingly eternal length left of schooling. The future debt. I'm glad I never did though. Sure if I had done differently, I would have went to the cheapest school possible to earn my degree because for most jobs, unless you're competing with Brad and Chad from Harvard and Yale, it really just matters what you did in school and what you can bring to the table. What kind of ideas and perspective do you provide. Etc.

Tldr: Good luck and really think hard about your decision before you do it.

Also maybe consider giving up THC until you graduate (assumed by the 420 name). I'm all for pot and all, but there's not a chance in hell I'd be able to study and be a good student if I was baked all the time.
