In the market for a new ski bag, looking for something to protect the sticks and possibly have wheels to ease the process of getting through an airport. What is everyone using?
I also wonder what people use..Jskis had what looked like a nice roller one in one of their marketing emails and I saved it to purhase later but never got around to it. (Stupid car repairs used up $ planned for a trip out west this summer)
I bought a Dakine fall line bag to takw my sticks with me from the US to NZ. I was able to fit 2 pakr of 186s a pair of 178s, boots and all my other gear, helmet, poles, jackets etc.
The bag held up great in transit, a few scuffs on the outside but zero damage to skis or anything inside. I was able to get mine from EVO for about $120 using an industry discount. Tried a high sierra and another crap brand before deciding on the Dakine which had more padding and felt way more durable. Plus you know Dakine stands behind their products.
I don’t like spending a lot of money on this type of bullshit so I got the Element Equipment Deluxe Padded Ski Bag. Cost $50 and I’ve taken it on 16 airplane trips over the past 3 years and the bag is still in great shape and does a good job protecting my skis. It doesn’t have wheels but I don’t care since I’m not a weakling. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GW2D4KD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_8HgjEbGSDRBS1
I've a Dakine Fall Line double that i've had for almost 10 years and its been on close to 20 flights and endless coach transfers and its still going strong. Only a small tear on the outer after a mis-judged pull from a taxi driver when it was jammed under a car seat.
I've had 12 pairs of unmounted skis in it, and regularly 3 pairs of mounted skis with the rest of my gear (easily 30+kg) so you can certainly pack everything in it.
Don't know if Euro baggage handlers are more careful but i've never had an issue of damage in transit.
The chunky wheels take up a bit more space in the bag than others but they grip better in snow for inevitably pulling it around resort and they handle kerb impacts well.
