Mountains That Still Ban Inverts?

I didn't know this was still a thing but saw this on holiday valley parks website. Any other mountains still doing this?

"Inverted Aerials are Prohibited at Holiday Valley except during sanctioned events by USSA aerial certified card carrying competitors.

Is this the 90s/Early 2ks? Last I remember a place currently outlawing inverts was Gore when I worked there but they got lax on it in 07/08 and I think dropped it the next year.

I believe in Michigan it's state law and ski patols role to enforce it. It doesn't get enforced but the signs are still up.

in quebec i dont think there are any laws and stuff but they do enforce the jump sizes heavily for safety reasons

It's either a NY state law or a big sticking point for NY insurance providers so most mountains have HUGE signs saying no inverts

Marble mountain, Newfoundland. Mark Arendz ski park on PEI too, but no one gets called on it unless certain patrollers are on duty.

Until this past season rabbit hill in Edmonton, ab was still trying to cut kids passes for flipping. They just got their insurance changed this year tho so now it's only "not recommended" to chuck your carcass

There is a small ski field in Idaho where my mom patrolled for years that was a "NO INVERTED JUMPS" hill. She was super chill about it but of course there were others that werent. Since then I know they have removed the signs but they dont encourage it.

Gotta do better than that. If it's really a law it has to be on the books. Even if they are the most trusted patrol guy I still wouldn't just take their word on it. Of course they can say or do whatever they want.
I searched the statutes and found nothing and in the internet age there has to be something. Looks like the full list of statutes is up there. For example I now know that you need a xc ski pass there if you are over 16.

Also for thread I feel like I remember a lot of the "it's a state law in ___" being total bullshit. It was my understanding that they were doing it to try and appease insurance peoples. I don't even think it's necessary in a lot of places, but small mountains still enforce leash laws for snowboarders sometimes, so people are def stuck in the past.

Idk for every state, but I think at least for NY the state law thing is horseshit.

I could be totally wrong.

Question:

Timmy heads into the 2 jump line at his home resort in Michigan and throws a front flip on jump 1, and a backflip on jump 2. Joey Jr. heads into 3 jump line in WNY throws a left cork 5, right cork 7, and a double back. Johnny hits a single jump in Ohio and throws a ninja flip off the knuckle.

Who will get their pass pulled?

Credits to you here. I could not find anything using the term invert. Still have not been to a Michigan hill though thats does not have yhe no inverts sign though. You called me out correctly though. Nicely done.

These are the places OP is asking about.

The sign doesn't make it state law though. Ski areas can have all sorts of rules that aren't state law. For example there is a sign at Anthony Lakes that says "all snowboards must have leashes" and that is not state law but they get to make their own rules and signs for their permit area.

My home resort, peek n peak is about an hour west of HV and you can do whatever you want there.


Holiday Valley sucks. That place is fucking wack. Safety patrol at every corner, they have people designated to sit under the lift and yell at people to put the bar down. If you don’t listen to them, you get a citation and your pass pulled.

If you find a natural side hit and safety patrol sees you jumping off it, they’ll pull the sled up to it and stand in front of it until it’s time to sweep trails at closing.

You will get your pass pulled if you back flip, front flip, Lincoln or rodeo.

Place is stuck in 90s man..honestly could be a staple in the OH/NY/PA ski scene as great resort. Their park scene sucks, place is ran all the wrong ways. Worst season of my life was spent there.

That's the dumbest shit ever. I remember some places trying to push that 10 years ago. You can cork, and rodeo, you just can't do a straight flip. Like gtfo you whack ass ski patrol motherfucker.

Also the jerries that get fucked up "trying to flip" 99% of the time just straight lined into the jump, leaning back, had no idea how to ski, compression and wobbly legs sent them backwards, and they do a half flip.

Idk, I just hate stupid rules that make no sense. Leash and invert rules are 90s as fuck. Put that right up with snowboard only: skiers prohibited signs in parks.

MOAR JORE. I remember we used to throw flips in twister glades because they were douches about it in the park. I think 07-08 was the last year they were kind of banned there.

*Video was supposed to start at 1:26 I think. Flip train by ski patrol. They were the cool patrollers though.

What about the “no jumping” signs on cat tracks and flat spots before a decline?

Does anyone else else suffer from this at their mountain?

It’s not an issue of poor visibility downhill, they just think it’s dangerous from what I’ve gathered.

Shawnee Mountain can fine you for doing any kind of flip from what I’ve been told but no one gives a fuck some patrollers encourages it cause it seems cool to them I guess

HV definitely could allow inverts. The only reason they don't is so that kids are forced to join their freestyle/freeride team if they want to learn/do them (with a coach).

Yeah I noticed that but only at hv. I think its cause it's hard to build a big enough yet safe kicker with the space and snow hv gets on average.

but ted ligety skied with the race team once in 2007 broooooo the freestyle team has nothing on the race team broooo we had 6 people make the US ski team in the 2000s brooooo.

That's the vibe their ski school gives off. Place really sucks. Fun terrain for the area..if a yellow jacket doesn't catch you hitting side hits..

Ski Sundown in Connecticut is still no inverts. Its for insurance reasons the last I'd heard. It's hilarious after someone does a flip and the patrollers go crazy trying to find the person that did it.

Genuinely had no idea this was even a thing. European park shapers/ ski patrol/ lifties will cheer you on and tell you how to nail whatever you are trying. Very sorry my American brothers.

My boyfriend was a coach a couple years ago - the fucking process that was required to get certified to teach inverts was insane. I don't remember the exact process but it was something along the lines of getting a background check to become an official coach. Then he would have had to do training to teach inverts. Then go somewhere else(Whiteface/Lake placid or Bristol) to actually get certified. And he may even have needed a PSIA certification but I'm not sure on that one.

So basically, he would have spend the entire winter trying to get certified and then there wouldn't have been any snow left to teach on, lol.

His kids are now training with Agenda Freeski all the way in fucking CANADA because HV made it nearly impossible for them to properly train for competitions. These kids lived 10 minutes from HV and now pay a shit ton more and drive 3-4 hours one way every weekend to do this stuff. And HV still doesn't really believe that this kind of skiing matters to people.
