It looks like he’s starting some sort of subscription to fund his skiing ventures, and was wondering your thoughts on his message

Chubz.I think it’s really whack. I support people who make cool clothes or produce high quality content, I would pay for a zootspace movie, or an On3p movie or a child labor movie.
I’m not giving bmack money while he galavants around the alps riding 1000 dollar skis that he gets for free so he can make videos filmed on an iPhone of him doing nose butters in Norway.
Low on funds so you can’t ski in Switzerland this summer? Here’s a crazy idea...get a fuckin job dude.
e~bNot only all that, I also don’t understand any of his “over consumption” narrative, like at all. He says “fuck the consumption that’s ruining our planet” but then asks for money so he can drop youtube edits? I fail to see the connection
pinkcamo1000I think what he means with the over consumption narrative is how tons of skier kids buy a bunch of clothes they don't need just to look cool. Go on to B/S/T right now, there is tons of Saga and XXL tall-t style stuff for sale that is barely even used which is probably being sold just cause it's not in style anymore. If that's not overconsumption, then what is? Skiers are the ones marketing this stuff, and their paycheques depend on how successfully they can sell it to their fans. Seems like B-Mack is trying to buck that system but I'm not sure this is the best way to do it. I'm a big fan of what Vishnu is doing with the thrifted clothes.
Chubz.Isn’t that how trends work, though? Things are in cool and in style, you want to be cool, trends and styles change, so does your taste. Better to put the clothes in hands where it will be used rather than thrown out or sit in a closet. Selling your clothes on here is better for cutting down “over consumption”. I’d rather fill a fellow skier’s pockets who’s in college buying clothes off him for a cheaper price rather than buying direct from a company if its a better deal. I definitely have jiberish and TTP threads in my closet front 5 years ago that I no longer wear bc it’s not my style anymore.
I agree that it’s cool how vishnu and arsenic do the whole thrift store thing. Putting your own spin on old clothes is rad.
But I really can’t get behind 16 dollars a month for ski edits..shits whack. Any other patreon you go to offer clothes, merch something you can rep and advertise to grow your audience. Why on earth would I spend almost twice as much as Spotify/Netflix to watch somebody ski places I’ll probably never be able to afford to ski. I could buy a ski movie with more impressive skiing every month for less money. I could use that 16 dollars and save for a new pair of skis which I’m in desperate need for. Or save for a ski trip so I can experience places these people ski everyday.
I talked to Tall T Dan about this earlier today and he said think of it as being a pro skier without being beholden to the demands of a ski sponsor, which I don’t agree with at all. If you want free shit, you should have to be held to some responsibility of producing content in return for the free shit.
He also called himself a pro skier which I also don’t agree with. Does a large social media following you curated by posting ski memes make you a pro? Nah I don’t think so. (Not hating I got mad love for dan and everything he puts back into skiing). Where do we draw the line with being a “pro”. And what responsibilities does being a pro warrant?
I really struggle to see where bmack’s head is at when it comes to this stuff. You could work two days a week and make more money than this patreon will fund you. I just can’t get down with supporting somebody else’s lifestyle without getting much in return. Work for what you want, don’t ask for handouts.

-DanJust a few things for consideration:
The amount of $16 a month is what people have already pledged to contribute. It was 4 patrons at that point. I was one of them, pledging $3.33 per month. You are free to pledge as much or as little as you like. Including nothing at all, clearly.
I can't speak for Maxi, but as well as I know him I can vouch for his good intentions. Excuse his phrasing, as English is not his first language. The idea to him seems along the lines of bypassing the production of merch style clothing and just letting you support his skiing aside from buying a shirt you won't wear in 6months. Even if that is resold and passed on, extending the life is only prolonging the inevitable. If you never create it in the first place then there is no waste. If its not specifically for clothing then its anti-consumerism in general. I know he's been attending school with a large focus on this issue.
General consensus here is that we should let brands determine who is or is not a pro skier. That is how things have traditionally been. From my perspective I'm cool with us deciding who the pro skiers are as well as the brands picking their pros. Plenty of amazing skiers never really got a shot at it because they didn't fit an image or weren't "marketable" This could include an aversion to whoring out for the Instagram algorithm.
We as the consumer have technology available to use that would allow us to propel these other skiers to a pro level. Youtubers and some podcasts do that as the norm.
montananI’m sure I will get some shit for saying this but who is b-Mack?

Chubz.I would love to see vishnu follow suit with skateboarding and make certain topsheets for their high level/influential riders and have that be their claim to fame for becoming pro, while a percentage of their ski sales goes into their pockets.
Chubz.I also think there’s a difference between sponsored skiers and professional skiers.
VISHNUhey...that's a good idea.

Chubz. In skateboarding you’re not pro until you get a pro model board with your name on it. Granted it’s different for skiing and most companies can’t afford to make that many top sheets or models of skis but I don’t think that it should be up to the public who is and who isn’t a professional skier. Armada and on3p are some of the only brands still putting out pro model skis with the riders name on them.

I also think there’s a difference between sponsored skiers and professional skiers. There’s also people in the comp circuit who I don’t consider professional. The last person I heard of becoming pro was Lucas Wachs for lib tech.
Out of curiosity, what makes you a professional skier?

Rparrwhy am I not surprised that dan is endorsing this objectively bum shit?
VISHNUhey...that's a good idea.
Young_pattyAll imma say is if you aren’t good enough for sponsers to pay you then get a job or get better.
skiP.E.I.To everyone saying he should get a job, I'm pretty sure he was working as a ski instructor in Oslo this season. I saw a bunch of insta stories/posts where he was skiing in an intructor's uniform.
a_burgerI like B-mack, probably won't donate money but I think it's not really a stretch to say he had the most unique skiing/editing style in freeskiing for a few years
skiP.E.I.How many people on NS would donate money for Delorme to drop an edit next season? This is essentially the same thing.
VISHNUhey...that's a good idea.
parkerblupro model ski would be sick
also 'all Vishnu are out of stock already' they were gone quick
are you guys going to sell some more later in the season?
Crust_StationI have some mixed feelings on this, sure BMack hasnt really released anything too nutty recently but Im sure thats because he’s been working hard trying to sustain himself. I think any of us would try to do this or similar if we had the following, I dont know if he does but I hope it works out for him.
Titus69No I wouldn't be asking for handouts if I was already employed likely working very little, I'd say sorry skiing I gotta work a few extra days a week, it's like being a ricu kid who works 2 days a week and complains he doesn't have cash so he asks daddy for some but still says he has a job as an excuse.
pinkcamo1000dude you're saying this like you know exactly how many hours a week the guy works, pretty sure he's at school full time and a ski instructor
Titus69I said it earlier, I dont even know if he has a job, all I'm saying is if he wants to live the life his pro friends are, he needs to step tf up in skiing to get paid or just do what we all do and get a job, it's a called sacrificing your fucking time.
