Skater Vs Skier debate

So a friend of mine who’s big in to skating and I got into a debate a while ago about which sport had more possible tricks. Even including jumps he claimed skating has way more possible trick variations but imo that can’t be right. With the amount of grabs and flip/spin combinations alone I feel skiing has more possibilities and that’s even before you get to rails... anyways help us decide.

Depends how big you can go. In theory skateboarding because if you're REALLLY AMAZING you could do every snowboard trick, with flip tricks, shuvs, body varial etc.

From just the amount of rail combos alone I would say skiing has more tricks. But that being said a terrain park is a pretty different place then a skate park so there is more opportunity for combos to be had in skiing

Skating is going to have more possibilities, it's already where most ski tricks got adapted from it will probably continue to innovate faster

Yeah pretty sure it would be skating. You have just as many grab combos, plus board flip variations, plus grind variations, plus fakie and switch

Now that my friend is oo vs oo. If you want to get into it you have to define what a trick is he’ll jumping could be a trick. Therefore there are any number of tricks. It’s all about creativity and creating a style for yourself.

this exactly. simply the ability to rotate the board on any axis, in four different stances, and also being able to spin yourself is already putting the variations of flatground well into the hundreds if not thousands. That's not even taking into consideration the other disciplines of skating, which there are many. Think of how much more variety one handrail adds to someone who knows how to flip the board.

I mean you are ignoring the 4 stance options as well, compared to 2. And if youre gonna count running up the stairs you can definitely do that with a skateboard using your choice of grab.

Lol duh? Literally everything in the world only has 3 axes.

But your forgetting about double flips (x3 axes)....and triple flips (x3 axes).... and late flips (x3 axes)....and backfoot flips (x3 axes)....and pressure flips (x3 axes)....and no complys (x3 axes). Multiply all those (x4) for the stances (regular, nollie, switch, fakie) and grinds (too many to even count but like 10 per truck + slide variations) and grabs (just as many as snowboarding & skiing) plus any body varials (backflip, spins, corks etc.).

Plus all the random shit I cant even think of primo, hand flip, hand stands, stalls, etc.

Skateboarding has more tricks than all the other action sports combined.

There is no possible argument to suggest that skiing has more tricks (in a vacuum) than skating. The fact that you aren't attached to the board and you can do shit like primos and darkslides creates thousands more variations.

Every skiing trick requires either an air or a rail.
Skaters can only spin a minority of those rotations, but they also have the ability to spin their board as well.
So, take about 1/4th of those rotations, times by all of the rotations for the board itself, times lates (most late spins adjustments i've ever seen is 3), and times grabs. Already a bigger number.
Those are air tricks, and you also have to account for a similar amount of board rotations on flatground. Take every possible rotation for the board and multiply it by 4 for regular, fakie, switch, and switch fakie.
Then you have to account for rails. All of these rotations on, all of these rotations off, 15ish different grind types. Not only can you change the type of grind as many times as you can, you can rotate the board inbetween different grinds, any of these rotations again. So, all the rotations multiplied by all the rotations multiplied by 15 multiplied by all the rotations.
It gets even more complicated when you get into freestyle and vert.

We are not diminishing the fact that skiing has a lot of tricks. We all like skiing.
But, skating dwarfs skiing in technicality and trick possibility.
