QuaffI have been repeatedly honked at and flipped off almost every day I bike to campus. I follow every law and keep my ass in the bike lanes, but it's just like the fact that I am on a bike is enough to get on people's nerves. Fuck you fatty, don't act like I am blocking you from the bike lane, fucking pass me you pussy. Going to keep a sack of rotten eggs in my bag to throw at you chodes for now on. Bozeman is full of douchebags, not excluding myself. We are all worthless.

I think you should find a creative way of fighting back. Maybe small capsules of paint that will permanently put a paint mark on their vehicle? It has to be something that isn't super obvious while you're doing it, so they won't try to run you over or stop to fight.

Or wear a GoPro and start a YouTube channel called Assholes of the Road. It will get hundreds of thousands of subscribers and you'll make bank,

Try skating to work it will double. but seriously fuck people that don't want to 1. pollute the planet 2. love physical exercise which is increasingly rare and 3. do nothing wrong. I was skating to work in the breakdown lane and a lady about 80 came up behind me slowed down and beeped at me maybe 5 ft away. I was so startled I nearly fell off my board in front of the car and got run over. I got board wobble and then nearly fell from that. I wasn't on my phone, I was respectively in the breakdown lane and was going in a straight line. I live in a summer tourist area and the assholes from Connecticut are the worst and act like they own Rhode Island because they polluted there entire coast. This may belong in rant about whatever but I get frustrated by honking entitled rich tourists.

I ride a road bike(motorcycle) and I can relate to your issues in a way............. Yes, people in cages(cars) are more superior than us that are on our 2 wheeled bikes when it comes to the roadway. I have been involved in numerous confrontations when it comes to a motorist and myself. Some cars have ended up with broken mirrors or a broken windshield and when it comes down to the motorist being confronted by a cyclist or a motorcycle rider they are a pussy just like a keyboard troll. Everyone is tough when they are behind the wheel of a car(or keyboard) and have a cell phone to call the bitch ass police. My advice, next time someone yells at you or swerves toward you, jump off your bike and call the bitches out, most will just drive away scared, show them you mean business(you may take a punch or two) but nothing you cant handle. I am sure you have a specific route and time you ride our bike and it may even be the same people heckling you, if so, just walk out in front of them and again, call them out. Another problem is you are obeying the damn laws, I have never met a bicyclist that has ever followed the rules, ride like you own that shit, fuck people in cages.

I don't know. I feel like this goes both ways. I try to give as much room as physically possible. If no one is coming the other way, I will move completely over and give you all the space in the world. You never know if they will lose control, an animal pops out, there's a pothole they need to avoid, idk.

That said, not every road is a good road to bike on. I don't know why but everyone and their mom's ride their bikes on the worst roads in my area. No shoulders, lots of loose gravel/potholes and they ride in the middle of the fucking road. As in like an arms length into the road from the white line, if there even is a white line. It's fucking scary.

Realistically over hills, around curves or just being in a line of cars can block bikers from view until you are REALLY close to the biker. The roads that I'm referring to aren't wide enough to just "go around" the biker. If there is no oncoming traffic then sure but if there is a car coming you are literally braking from 45/55 down to 15/20mph and praying to god the person behind you doesn't slam into you.

I'm sure in cities/villages there are more cars to avoid but at least traffic is slower so there is more time for both the car and biker to react. I personally would rather get hit at 20mph than 50mph lol.

In Portland we went down a few roads(it might have been the same road a few times, not really sure lol) that I think was intentionally super narrow to discourage through traffic and that road could be used primarily by bikes or people who lived on it. I thought that was neat.

Idk if it's as bad where you guys are from, but on the east coast, road-bikers think they're a fucking car and decide to just ride in the middle of the damn lane just like a car, so it's a bitch to pass em. Or if they're with their buddy, they ride side by side in the same fashion, so now it's really like they're a car taking up the whole lane. That's one of my biggest pet peeves ever. They are all assholes, too; if you try and honk politely or flash your lights real quick to let em know you're passing them, they get pissed and start flipping you off or brake checking you and shit. They're all dicks and I hate them, and no they don't obey basic bike laws to keep themselves safe and keep me from getting charged with manslaughter by accidentally hitting one of these biker dildos.

I'm with OP on this one. Most places I've lived didn't even have bike lanes. You obey all traffic laws and then move to the side but don't stop or slow down when cars get behind you. If they don't pass then they're giant pussies..... Biking on country 55mph roads tho can be sketchy as fuck. Those people don't stop and get close af to you.

I do get annoyed when that 65yr old wanna be cycler all decked out in spandex is out on his $10K racing bike during rush hour going 8mph and pedaling in low gear. We all know your bike is faster than that you lazy fuck.

I've never once been honked at or shown any aggression towards so maybe your towns are just full of assholes

It depends on the infrastructure of the city you're in I've found. In Vancouver every street has a bike lane and most drivers are very aware. 4 months of biking to and from work and didn't have a single run in with a motorist. In Ontario the cycling infrastructure isn't nearly at the BC level and drivers are less tolerant. Having bike lanes on all streets, although annoying to motorists, help keep the streets much safer for cyclists.

Cyclists get a bad image for the same reason that people on motorcycles do. We've all seen the YouTube videos of a guy on a motorcycle lane splitting doing 80. We've also all seen people who can't keep their bike in a straight line on the road.
