It pisses me off that this has turned into shitting on women's skiing and calling Sierra a whore. From the start the industry hasn't done a whole lot to promote women's skiing. There have never been really great women's skis until very recently. A lot of events did not pay equally until very recently, and some still don't. Finally women in skiing have always faced some weird double standards, like having to be attractive. Ingrid and Sarah wore swimsuits and dressed up like FUCKIN school girls in movies. My friends that are sick skiers, but don't post sexy insta pictures do not get the same sponsorship offers that girls that do, but are worse skiers. The SKI INDUSTRY is the one to blame. A lot of ski companies are looking for female models and not trying to prop up the next generation of great female skiers.
But I am probably wrong, and this online forum for 100 of the most jaded, wish they were pro, dude skiers is probably right.
I mean the first girl posting in this thread made some posts, then said "don't talk to me, I'm not replying to anybody or listening to logic" when people made constructive replies. Maybe she got steamrolled to some extent but if you post something, it's generally good to be able to back it up, or at least discuss it.
I think her insta is pretty basic, but I'm not a fan of calling somebody a whore for having a shitty ig profile.
Also womens skiing/snowboarding is kind of blowing up. The girls who are throwing down are getting credit. Insta has been going off the last few years. Hell, real snow xgames had a womans part in with the dudes, and it was sick as fuck.
Honestly if a girl puts down bangers on the reg, people will fucking follow her. If she's been led to believe otherwise that's sad. Maybe she'll get more views if it's nothing but lifestyle pics but honestly that makes sense. Most people don't give a fuck about skiing. But most people are attracted to girls or guys. Hot pics will do better than whirly twirlies on some grinderbarz.
Your post is a lot about whats to blame. Is everything fair? Probably not, and that's not specific to women. Things are never completely fair. What isn't going to help is blaming everyone and playing the victim card. What is going to help is women saying "fuck everyone, I'm a killer skier and all you haters can go fuck yourselves". I feel there's been an increase of that, or at least a resurgence. There are some women that just throw the fuck down because they want to, because it's fun, because they're good. Sure you're learning tricks to move up the ranks, and do better in competition, but their are some badasses out there.
Womens pipe(snowboarding at least) has had some slayers throughout history. In both sports the slope and big air side have been lacking. There were years and years, where 180, 180, 360. Maybe a 5 would be the best run(some not even grabbed). Fairly weak rail tricks. People didn't feel motivated to progress. That shits gone now. Women are throwing the fuck down, pretzels fer dayz on rails, people throwing dubs, learning trips. Consistently big spins. You have to be serious to win pro events now.
That said the blame game is fucking dumb. Sure people have been scared out of getting into freestyle by douchebags. That said I feel like the sport is as inviting as it's ever been. Pretty much if you aren't side jumping people are generally chill. Ask anybody in the park for tips on a trick, speed for a jump, and they'll help.
The industry has put a ton of effort into engaging more women in freestyle, touring, even just general getting on the hill and riding. These are good things.
Things aren't perfect, but playing the victim card that hard is a bullshit cop-out imo.
