Marker, Look, Tyrolia

Ok so how do the Marker Griffon, Tyrolia attack 16, and Look pivot 14 compare? Based off of durability, retention, weight, what style of skiing they work best with, etc.

Most would leave Marker out of the conversation these days with the possible exception of the Kingpin, though the pins seem to still be an issue.

Attack 16 vs Pivot 14, how big are you? How do you like to ski? What is your DIN setting? I'd say if you have to ask and haven't already formed an opinion on bindings you like or don't like you probably don't need a 16 DIN binding. Pivot 12 and Attack 13 would probably be more appropriate unless you're giant.

I weigh 110 pounds, I am 5'8", and run my dins at 5. I would overall consider myself a type 3 skier, beginner in park, but I spend a lot of time there, a little bit of aggressive skiing on piste and a little bit more of more conservative skiing off piste. I dont have an opinion on bindings and I considered the attack 16 over 13 because I heard it was more durable. Does that help?

Except the minimum DIN on the Attack 16 is 8...it has a range from 8-16 that you don't fall into. You probably won't blow up a pair of Attack 13 or Pivot 12s unless you grow a lot and go really hard or have terrible luck.

Yeah I think the Attack 13s are a better choice in my case because they are cheaper and Pivots and I don't ski super hard, I've never had any really bad crashes or anything.

Pivots have the best retention on the market. STHs are second. Griffons and attacks have the same retention with attacks being more durable but far cheaper.

My attack 13s lasted me forever, broke a bunch of brakes but they still lasted forever.

Just get pivot 12s if you can find them. No sense in spending money on bindings you might blow up anyway

attack 13 for you IMO

cheap, good, light bindings, and you don't need anything burlier than that so i don't see a point in you buying Pivots which are more expensive and heavier

i agree with the "ignore marker" sentiment

Honestly I would get Look Pivot 12s. They are more expensive but they will last you multiple pairs of skis. 3 at least. They have a high tag but there is a reason. They are the best free ski binding on the market IMO. Tyrolias are durable but you can’t beat Look Pivots.

Very true. I have had Griffins on two skis now and I have absolutely no complaints.

Attack 13 or 12 which is the same just a different colorway. Or STH2 13. Both very bomber bindings with metal in the heel.

I know more people with knee injuries on pivots than griffons. That’s why I’ve never picked up pivots, I’m buying a new ski today so....change my mind, maybe I’ll throw some pivots on them

Their all good bindings. Pivots are a little bit pricier so that’s a drawback but I like them because of the toe piece on the 18s and the short mounting base
