What should I do?

So next year I’m thinking about putting some cash down and buying some Magnus 102s to last me a couple seasons, only thing standing in my way is that I want an AT setup. There’s a high elevation XC skiing place I go to with my family that has insane untouched powder glades all over the mountain (people skin up and ski the pow there all the time). Should I just get a cheaper park setup and get a good AT setup with that? Or should I just look for some backcountry stuff at my local swap? Maybe put AT bindings on some Magnus’s or maybe get Kartels for a more all round ski? Thoughts please

Buy Kartels and some daymakers. You really have to be honest with yourself though and ask how much touring do you really plan in doing?

tbh probably not a whole ton. I ski 90% resort I would just like to have a setup for when I do go touring.

Daymakers for sure. As for a ski idk, I've never ridden either the Kartels or Magnus.

yeah the Magnus would be ideal, but if I’m between Kartel and magnus It’s between the Magnus 102 and Kartel 108, but I’m open to suggestions for different skis similar

The daymaker or cast setup sound like they would be perfect for you, maybe the daymaker cuz you can use them with most bindings where as the cast I believe you need pivot 18's, but if you want one of if not the best binding available the cast is pretty sweet

Daymakers. No boot conversion necessary. Not limited to one ski.

Kartel 108 is a daily driver for a lot of people. Go for it

Buy Daymakers for sure or BCA Trekkers if you can't afford them because you can find trekkers for cheap. Fit into any binding and turn any ski into an AT setup. I've had the same trekkers for 5 seasons now and they haven't failed me even though they have a reputation for eventually breaking. Definitely invest in Daymakers if you can tho, I tested some out and they are everything the trekkers want to be. Plus when you are done going uphill, you have a normal downhill binding, which is nice because skiing on touring bindings will never be as good as skiing a normal binding

What I heard was they are better on jumps, more durable and, since they don’t have as much early rise in the tip and tails, more ski will be in contact with snow. Not that that last point makes it better or worse, it’s mostly how you like it.

Every level but swerving. They're a little stiffer so they do better in every other situation
