JP_JPI just stomped my first 3 540s today. I just kept looking over my shoulder. If your head and body are aligned in the takeoff/windup/spin you should be fine. When you feel yourself get to a 3 do one last look over your shoulder you are spinning towards for the 5.

Julius_SteezerIdk if it’ll help you but I always skied without poles in the park but I’d get wrapped up in my own arms trying a 5. Took some short poles out for a day and found it way easier to stay balanced and keep the rotation going.
otherwise as said above, set slightly harder than you would a 3 and keep your head looking round. Feels weird the first time but it works
Johngreenacremake sure you are going into the jump with good shin pressure. I know its overused but make sure you aren't sitting back, you can't jump and set if your calfs are chilling in the back of your boots. do a nice big T set on takeoff and have a little bit of wind up. take off with your feet about shoulder width, and give a nice good pop as you swing your arms and chest. it should feel like your body is one big unit spinning, and there's no separation of momentum between your upper and lower body or head or anything. if you feel this, you probably aren't popping well. in the air pull your arms in to a comfortable level. don't tighten up like a ballerina, but don't leave them totally wide open. last, just be patient and commit. its pretty scary landing tricks switch at first, but it really isn't that hard. don't be scared!
Also, I don't know the size of the jump you're doing it on but it should be at least 15 feet imo. just enough time to really do a 5 smoothly without rushing. that being said once you're good at them you will be able to do them off rollers.
Also, practice your switch skiing. I know nobody wants to do this or thinks its that important, but I'm telling you, this is the most important thing you can do to progress you're skiing, and its not difficult or scary, so just do it. When you're comfortable skiing switch and looking over both shoulders with a good stagger, landing switch will feel like second nature. I PREFER taking off jumps switch and landing switch to forwards.

SkylineGTR_R32First off...this biggest jump we have that hasn’t been ruined by our lazy ass park crew is 12 feet. Kind of a bummer but I’ll make it work. I have spent a lot of time skiing switch and I can carve my way down a hill switch no problems. Thank you for your detailed description, I will definitely use it!

Just this weekend I got called a drug dealer, a heroin addict, a hooligan, and a pothead just for trying to ride up the lift with this couple. Not even kidding. And the only person that defended me was the lifty. If I get run off the hill by some “shredder” taking up the whole hill it’s my fault

MaimHelpLearned 5s last weekend. Just get a slighlty more poppy jump and go a little faster. It came around surprisingly easy for me. Just practice 180s so you can land switch on the landing and then floaty 360s. I did so many 360s that I could see all of my surroundings as I went around as I wipped it around. Set a little harder for a 3 with good pop and just keep your head turned. I'm sure you'll stomp it easy
