What constitutes super unknown? (Level 1)

Seems to be pretty subjective. Last year we had Parker Norvell and sam Zahmer make finalists,

w/ Sam having made semi finalists at least twice before also seems like hes been on Jiberish since the 17/18 season (Maybe this was after super unknown, hard to find dates like when he got added).

Parker Norvell rides/rode for icelantic.

This year Jack Finn made finalists and he's been the main guy for Surface skis for the last year and a half (tons of insta posts, and that windells add I see all the time).

Maybe I am just misunderstanding the point of Super Unknown but none of these guys seem to be that unknown.

Whats the point of creating a contest to give unknown riders a chance to become known, if your just gonna mix in riders with a big social media presence and well known sponsors. Not hating on the riders themselves, Im jw why level 1 would except their entry in the first place.

yeah i think its been pretty talked about, cause we have all heard of zhaner at some point

I agree. Now with social media, anyone can gain a following so pretty much every skier good enough to be in superunknown is somewhat known through social media.

This isn't really a rule and there arent really any rules, skiers who are "pro" aka make enough money of off skiing to make a living, they obviously wont enter SU because 1. they either already film/have filmed with l1p or 2. they have another commitment. OP what you are referring to are the rules that have been in place since day 1, things were much different when JD won SU.

Never said it was. I think it’s a good thing as it gives everyone an opportunity to make it even if they are not able to travel all over for comps or film with a company.

Not sure if you used an older website definition but it actually no longer says "unsponsored" in the description. New language is as follows: "Started back in 2004 as a way to give talented skiers a chance to gain exposure, sponsorship, and a shot at filming with Level 1, SuperUnknown™ set out to provide an alternate route to exposure outside of the traditional competition scene."

Seems they dropped the terminology because just about every skier (if not every single one) in the past 5+ years have all had ski sponsorships, if not also goggle and outerwear deals.

Zahner was with Bloom for about 5 years before Jiberish too, not sure if they actually pay, but counts as a sponsorship
