What is the correct way to measure a jump?

from the lip of the kicker to the knuckle is how i've always measured a jump. and the sweet spot should be 5-10 feet past the knuckle

If its off a cliff you need to add an extra 10 feet

Lip to knuckle. Measuring the height is useless because you could have a 20 foot tall jump that sends you 20 feet (like Aerials) or 70 feet (like big air). I've seen tiny little 5 foot tall kickers that send you like 45 feet or the ones that are only 15 feet. So horizontal distance is much more consistent

The take off height can be kind of irrelevant with your normal park jump because you can fill the side in or dig them out more depending on preference and snow. You can have a small jump that looks massive because there's no snow around it, or make a huge jump look a little more mellow if the deck is more gradual. When people were all building step downs that wasn't the case because a flat deck you see exactly how tall the takeoff actually is.

Obviously there's a variance between different mtns. Some mtns are building very steep takeoffs, some super mellow. But it gives a reference.

Also many places won't list their jump lengths anymore because everybody fucking sues in this country. Nothing better than getting fucked in a lawsuit because some jerry sails off the knuckle, not even hitting the takeoff and gets hurt. Looking for way to sue. They measure said jump and it's now 44' but when it was first built it was listed as a 50 a month before.

I'm stoked that in spite of everything parks are really good out there these days. Hoping that keeps up. The day we have to get approval from an engineer that's never strapped on skis to build a jump, I'm quitting the damn ski industry and moving to the beach.
