Where to stay in Whistler?

I'm thinking about making my first pilgrimage to Whistler in April and I'm debating on where I should stay. I know staying in Whistler can be quite expensive. Is it a good idea to stay in Squamish since it is cheaper or should I be staying in the village the first time I ski there?

if you stay in squamish you would need to set aside about half an hour drive each way, each day. assuming you are driving there its warm in april so you could always camp out in your car.

The HI in whistler creek side is probably your best bet - super clean and will be pretty quiet in April (was there a few years ago at this time). Cost was about $35CAD a night and was a $2 bus ride to whistler ‘city central’ (5-10minute ride).

HI stands for Hostels International, if you're familiar with the chain you have a decent idea of what to expect. The building was built for the Olympics so it's reasonably new. It's $45 for a bed in a four person dorm, you're paying a lot more if you want a private room and at that point may as well be in the village. The price is cheaper if you have a HI membership - which isn't a bad investment if you're doing a road trip as they own pretty much all of the hostels I've seen in BC.

Exactly this - prices could have shifted from when I was last there, but still a whole lot cheaper than anywhere else. Up-to-date facilities and clean.

you can probably take the gondi up from creek if you are staying there as well

Check out the Pangea Pod hotel as well. I stayed there for a few days in the summer and it was wicked, super clean and quiet in the 'pod' rooms. Would be a little more expensive than the hostel, but the location is way better (2 min walk from lifts).

i paid $120 a night for Whistler Inn & Suites in the village. totally worth it.

look into VRBO or air b&b too.

That's not too bad. I've been looking at AirBnB and have a few leads. I was just wondering if there is an unknown site with rare treasures that typically are not seen.

I stayed at the HI for two nights in January, then at Howe Sound Brewing in Squamish for the next two nights. The drive from Squamish isn't that bad.

Just car camp at the conference centre. You can stay in the overnight parking garage for like $10
