Today, a friend and I headed up to the mtn (we live in Mammoth,) and there were so many god damn tourists out to the parking lot to buy a ticket. The ticket line was an hour and a half. I hate tourists, and the massive corporations (i.e. Intrawest,) that bring them here like beans to your bowels. I despise it, man. The ski town locals are being forced to abandon their own towns just because of the massive influx of tourists and ugly-ass Intrawest developments. Yeah. Fuck it all. Our world's going to shit. And if we don't do anything about it, all that's green and good will be gone.

Last President's Day Weekend wasn't nearly this bad. And yes, I have a pass, but the lift lines were ridiculous as well.

its only good if they use the money there making (buttloads from timeshares and real estate but alot is from skiing too)to improve the mountain(new chairs, stuff like that).

the problem starts when they dont do things like that, and just horde it for themselves.

also if u have a seasons pass you can just cut through all that.But that's bullshit

I thought Northstar's park was super sick when I was there. The crowds were unusual for such a mediocre mountain though.

Dude, that's Mammoth, you should know that by now...especially on a holiday weekend when its snowing.

That sucks to hear. I guess we got lucky, the jumps boxes, rails, grooming and short lines were all sick. It was a really good experience.

I can relate to what Mista.. is saying. I've seen how bad it gets at Mammoth and it really sucks when you're super amped to ride and every chair has between 50 and 90 minute lines. Like being at fucking Disneyland or some shit.

I'm heading up to June Mtn. tomorrow, it's probably going to be a fuckin zoo too. MLK day, the 1st chair was a 2 hr. line but once we got on the mtn it wasn't bad at all.

i live in mammoth too and i completely agree, thy dive like fucking retards and ski even worse. the only good part about the weekend in mammoth is making dollars. and i didnt make shit this morning. mmm. just wait and it will be ours again.

^ You can't talk about the benefits of tourists if you haven't lived in Mammoth. There's not a local that doesn't despise them. They generated enough money three or four years ago, when there was a moderate amount. Now it's a zoo. You can't fucking drive or park in our town. It's insanity.

Just because tourists drive the industry doesn't mean that we aren't allowed to be frustrated. It fucking sucks to lose half your day of riding to fucking lift lines. Especially at a resort that the majority are high speed quads.

Tourists also equate to more idiots in the park that don't fucking belong there. Are we not allowed to be pissed about that either. Tell me you've never been pissed and vented when you got cut off by a fucking goob on old ass straight skis that obviously skis one day a fucking year.

just learn to drive. dont come to mammoth if you cant drive a vehicle in the snow. it snows here. dont put chains on in th middle of a mainroad, or road at all for that matter, not inthe middle of the traffic light intersection either, not a bright idea. USE TURN SIGNALS, then we allknow whats happening and go shopping beofre you get here. we need to eat too.

I think locals try to be cool and think they own the mountain and shit by hating on tourists. I know this attitude is all over here in Tahoe with the 'go back to the bay' stickers and shit. It's pretty damn stupid and you only have to deal with the tourists on weekends and holidays so quit crying like little pussies. I have to put up with it at Squaw too but I realize that resorts need money to operate. And you probably are a 'tourist' visitng a resort from time to time also.

I think that tourists are good but the moutain needs to expand to the tourists. For example, mammoth should buy some extra land, expand the ski area boundries and add a bunch more groomers for all the shitty skiers. Upgrade the lifts to six packs and gondalas. Mammoth can definitely afford it.

I find it hard to believe that you can complain about yesterday at mammoth. Yes it was a little crowded, but for president's weekend, not bad at all, especially on the higher chairs, I don't think I waited more than 5 minutes all day, and the snow was great. I understand that having people come into 'you're' town and crowd it is dissapointing. But you live in a tourist destination, and I'm pretty sure tuesday and wednesday of this week are going to rock, just like every weekday you get up there rocks. While all those tourists and myself have to get back to our lives outside of the moutains. Just because someone isn't living in the town doesn't mean they're not just as deserving or dedicated to the sport. Consider yourself lucky.

Bdskier, are you serious? You waited no longer than 5 minutes? I find that very hard to believe. And yes, I realize that lots of people from out of town are great skiers who love the sport...I don't consider them 'tourists,' per se. Tourists are the goons and bitches that are way rich and cruise around in their nice cars and nice jackets and shit and can't even make it down a bunny hill.

I only took two lower lifts all day, we were on the upper half and on the backside. But i'll agree with you that mammoth is (more than most places) overrun with yahoos. Tahoe gets it, but not as bad and it's spread out because there are more mountains, and ones that attract beginners and socialites. But Mammoth is unique because it's the only real mountain accessible to southern californians who for the most part are touristy unskilled/unexperienced skiers. It makes for a weird vibe for sure. I'm jealous of you for this coming week, it's gonna be awesome.

i come up to mammoth a few time a month from so cal, and that place is getting seriously packed. if you get to any of the major parking lots after 7, you're gonna be walking about a quarter- or half-mile to the lifts.

and the term for morons who can't drive in the snow with their fucking ghetto-wannabe escalades and can't make their rich asses down the green run is 'gaper'.

and while i'm thinking about it - the BIGGEST thing that people can do on a lift to piss me the fuck off is put down that goddamn bar. i was up in mammoth in early january, and something like 6 chairs in a row, the other people put down the bar, 3 times it hit me when i was sending a text message or trying to find a song or something. in the afternoon i got on the chair with some dude, and i mumbled 'i swear, i'm gonna fucking lose it if he puts that bar down' under my breath... i think he heard me.

hummm, well lets think. Do ski place like mamoth depend souly on season pass holders that ski there every week? No,they dont. Its the massive amount of people on weeks like this that they need to have so they dont go under. You should thank them and say come back next pres week. Then suck it up for a week and go back to normal skiing.

The benefits you receive from the tourist influx far outweight the drawbacks. If your whole town is filled with locals who hate the tourists, you live in a place where everyone is too blind to see that your life, as you know it, right this minute, is completely dependent on the money those tourists bring in.

Long lines suck, but I think that if I were in such a situation, I'd be stoked to have park and mountain as phenomonal as yours.
