Hitting larger jumps

The largest jump I’ve hit was only like 8 feet. Pathetic, ik. Is hitting a 15+ foot jump really different. I don’t have the balls to hit one. Even though I’ll do 20 foot drops, I feel like I’ll either overshoot it or land on the knuckle.

Edit: how tf are you supposed to measure jumps. I measure em by the height of the actual jump.

Same here. My fear of heights kicks in on big jumps but not cliffs for some reason.

If you actually do 20 ft drops there is no way you'd be afraid to hit a 15 ft jump. 15 ft is nothing. 3 ski lengths. Jerries airing off cat tracks or jump knuckles go further than that.

Jumps are way easier than drops. Just follow someone who knows it well.

I don’t believe you’re sending 20 foot cliffs and can’t send a 15 foot jump. Those are 2 very different magnitudes.

but either way just go for it. Start on small jumps and just send em deeper, then you’ll realize you easily are getting enough air for a bigger jump and the transition shouldn’t be hard at all.

Dude i had the same fear a long time ago. Get someone that knows the jump to "Tow" you in, this helps with speed and gives you the confidence to go for it without worry.

as mentioned. just follow someone in. its best to follow a friend in but ive even dropped in behind some randos.

just think, speed, shin pressure, then pop. Then boom youve stomped it

this is a troll. 15 foot jumps are tiny and if you're actually halfway good you'd have no problem hitting them. Speaking as someone who's good at riding but has had the yips off of 30+ foot jumps ever since getting hurt once a couple seasons ago.

the largest jump you've hit was 8 feet? wtf dude a minipark jump is like 5. I've seen 8 year old racer jerrys hit 15 footers. Get a pair and hit a 40. If you can do 20 foot cliffs you can do a 40 footer.

tbh though I don't believe a word in this post so whatever...

Literally just send it haha. I hit my biggest jumps the last time I went skiing and it didn't even feel weird...I was with a crew who were all going over them and was like damn, gotta prove that I can hang. Go at the speed you feel is appropriate for you to clear the knuckle and you'll be smooth sailing

Just watch someone straight air it and do exactly the same. Don't speed check, don't absorb the jump, and you'll be all good.

Already said but best advice is follow someone in who knows the speed. Go warmup and hit some smaller stuff then find someone to hit the larger one. This approach is also good for hitting larger or sketchier rails where speed matters more.

Once I watched a racer boi who think he's hot shit hit a 25 footer with a pretty kicky booter absorb the whole thing and from the top it looked like that video of the dude coming short at Chad's. Had me on the ground laughing

Things that send you in the air are called jumps. If you absorb the sharp end of the jump with your knees it’s no good.

basically he’s just saying to pop. Though you won’t leave in an ambulance cause it’s only a 20 foot jump and you’ll probably be fine even if you totally fuck up sooo... I didn’t pop when I learned to jump on 20ish foot jumps and it wasn’t a big deal. Only had to learn to pop when I started doing tricks

I used to suffer from the same dilemma. Man let me tell you, the saying "Mind over matter" really comes into play here. I used to be a chicken on big boy jumps, and when I would try em I would often case or barely miss casing badly, out of pure fear. The way I learned to muster the courage to properly hit and land a big jump was just by asking to follow in my friend on the second biggest jump Killington has to offer in the dream maker park, and cranked my music up real high and didn't look down. After that I felt like an idiot for not trying them sooner, it's sooooo much easier than you think.

Large jumps are no big deal, if your knees are used to big drops, you should be gucci. Ask someone hitting the jump if you can follow them in and see their speed. There isnt much to be afraid of. Send it.

Under OP's definition, yes you can technically backflip a 4ft jump. However that is the incorrect way to measure a jump since it doesn't take into account a ton of factors. e.g under OP's definition a knuckle skimmer jump is less than 1 ft tall

Yea but a 15 foot lip jump is at least a 60 footer and OP has 148s and is 5 foot 8. No way he hits jumps that big with ski chest height. I'm still callin this thread bs.

I just got the 148s. Before I had 154s I think. And measuring the right way, I’ve hit a 15 footer.

Overshooting the landing actually sucks. Almost broke my tailbone once. The kid in front of me cased it so I picked up as much speed as I could, and popped hard. I probably flew 15 feet up and landed on the right side of my ass.
