What are your favorite midlayer pants?

I usually rock basketball shorts over my base layer but sometimes I get cold. What would you guys recommend? I've heard a lot of people say go fleece (REI x Teton fleece pants for example) but I'm not sure. I usually just throw on some cotton joggers and haven't had an issue with them getting wet when riding park but I'm nervous about doing that on a wet day/in pow.

I tried midlayers on the nether regions, but i've found that thicker insulated ski pants work better - too much layering on my legs, makes me feel like im skiing in jeans

These base layer pants we got issued in the Army, I call them waffles but they are seriously so warm and you can probably get them dirt cheap. They are the only useful thing I got from the Army besides night terrors and a crippling addiction to alcohol.

Damn I’m even more upset they wouldn’t accept me. I could have gotten free pants? Fml.
