Well yeah obviously. I am talking more specifically like super tuned up/custom skis, I remember someone tell me this a couple of years ago and could never find the answer. I remember t-wall making a point that his pro skis could be bought at store, was he implying that other's are all custom? Also, anybody else noticed how gopros ads look ten times better than what you usually get, obviously they probably have people getting thousands of clips so there are bound to be some good pictures, but none of the athletes are cinematographers.
Don’t see why they would have anything custom that went beyond aesthetics
Same for the go pro footage and being a cinematographer have nothing to do with knowing which tricks to do for certain angles of the camera to make for good aesthetics of a shot
i talked to a shop tech working on my skis near killy earlier this season. he said when killy hosted a comp a few years back they had some of the armada riders in the shop for tuning. apparently henriks skis at the time were just a really beefed up version of their regular retail version. thicker sidewalls, more durable bases, etc.
not sure if what he said was legit bc that seems like a pretty big claim but still pretty interesting

Yeah stuff like that will happen but for the most part pros have normal gear. Back when Salomon had shitty foam cores sometimes their pros would get wood core versions but that’s just making up for bush league shit (foam cores)
Most pros’ gear is normal stock beyond maybe some work done on boots of course and every now and then they’ll fuck with skis/top sheets but that’s not the norm at all
And of course some will ski prototypes and/or next year’s models but that’s just R&D
Some pipe skiers have custom bases with like carbon fiber layered in (Mike Riddle). But most pros nowadays ride normal gear that you buy from a shop but they can run through a lot more equipment without the financial burden.

Yeah I remember seeing torin and gus (when he was on armada) and in the pipe they had pipe cleaners with a different top sheet or vice versa, but yeah some need skis custom built like I can see Henrik blowing through edollos considering how much less crazy shit I do on my arvs which are getting beat the fuck up still. Some companies will also give out some protos to athletes, like schlopy has been skiing PC this year on what I think are next years arv 96 just black top white base and Joss before k2 he had some armadas that weren't ever sold with the graphic I saw on them.
The vast majority of the pro's you know are going to be skiing the stock ski out of the wrapper unless it's a prototype. Even then they have to be a super high level competitor to garner something special or be on a brand that has the ability to quickly make changes. As most skis are made on a dialed in production line that is not going to be interrupted to try and dial in a specific element unless it's for someone that moves thousands of units .
I remember seeing on here that David Wise switched to Moment (from Head?) right before the Olympics and was having trouble grabbing their square nose and tail so they made him a special pair with a normal rounded cap. I think he was riding the same thing in this years XGames.
Theres a long-standing conspiracy in skateboarding that Deluxe (Real, Anti-Hero, Krooked) give their riders decks with better wood than what gets sent to skateshops
Also I think in some interview on here Torin said the best boot for him is like an old K2 womens boot that they no longer make so they stockpiled some for him.

It's definitely easier for a small shop like Moment to change up a tip shape. And quite honestly Moment would get more out of supporting an athlete like David Wise than say a brand like Head who is already on the feet of some of the top downhillers in the world.

Yeah, he got a couple of pairs, but he ran out and is now skiing our inline K2 Luv 100 MV for all those Fanboyz out there.

Idk if I've even seen Tanner using his Il Moro pro models. Every POV edit I've seen has had him riding some kind of KR2 Pro. Made sense when his pro model used the KR1 shell, but even though dalbello sent versions of the Il Moro with the newer shell to their competitive athletes, Tanner continued to use a different boot. This is mostly speculation, and often shots aren't released until months after filming, so timing could be the biggest factor here. Seems like they're just called the "Il Moro" and they removed the T.

Yeah I was wrong about it being Head, but thats exactly what happened. It was in one of the 2018 Olympic threads and someone noticed the round caps and asked if Moment was moving away from the squared tips. He or moment jumped in the thread and explained thats what happened and then once they actually had time to work together (im assuming) they launched the Transition with normal rounded tips as the stock ski.
I thought it was a super dope way for them to help out their new rider which is why I remembered it. AND FWIW I think the square tips on Moments are so dope.
