Recommend me a powder ski

Hi all. Recent Tahoe storms have me inspired to look for a dedicated powder ski.
This would be for inbounds only, mostly cruising through trees for powder stashes. Not looking for high speeds here. Can be directional, switch skiing is not a concern here.

I've been using J Skis Metal as a 1 ski quiver, so that has me covered for mixed conditions, on piste, and higher speeds.

I'm thinking this means something wide, light, and playful, and I am considering the Line Pescado. I'm curious about fully rockered skis like the Moment Meridian 117 and 4FRNT Devastator, but am concerned they may be too chargey for this purpose.
What else should I be looking at?

K2 hellbents one of the widest skis you'll find, nuttiest graphic and bases, and very very playful.

Line Sick Day 114. It's directional, light, and relatively soft which make it very east to maneuver in tight spaces. It's also super playful whether you're slashing turns or popping off mini hits. I personally prefer chargier pow skis (Moment Wildcat) that can turn soft choppy leftovers into pow but if I wanted something more mellow, the Sick Day 114 would be at the top of my list.

Atomic Bent Chetlers, Line Mordacai's, Line Sick Day 114s, Armada ARV 116 JJ's, ON3P Kartel 116's, Faction Candid 4.0/5.0 are all great powder skis in my opinion. Hope you find what you're looking for.

I got the the JJ Zeros this year they're soft in tip and tail and super stiff under foot they feel pretty surfy but you can still charge pretty hard on them.

Chetlers and ARVs interest me more than the Mordecai. I have the 2014 SFB and since I'm not skiing switch in pow I find the big tails just get in the way.

Thought about Kartels for sure, if I was looking for a daily driver that's probably what I'd go with. But I'm wondering if the Billy Goat or Wren or Cease and Desist would be better as a dedicated pow ski. I get the impression they are all pretty hard charging but I've never tried any of them.

The reason I thought the Kartels would be perfect for you is because they have a tighter turn radius than the Wrens, Billy Goats, or Cease and Desists. Since you mention tree skiing, I thought this would be the best way to go. Cheers!

Hoji is fun. I haven't been on the devestators but I'm guessing the hoji might be better for trees etc and it is a little fatter. I also have the YLE which is super fun but hoji is lighter and adequate for deep pow. I almost bought Inthaynes those b/c those look rad and I demoed Pescados and they were super fun and easy to turn with a big floaty tip. I'd pick up a pair of either if they were on a super deal but too much over lap with the skis I have.

I'll toss in a vote for the Pescado as being maybe one of the best pow oriented tree skiing skis of all time. They're short at 180 and nimble with their tight turning radius. They float exceptionally well thanks to their massive tip and traditional mount point. They aren't the chargiest ski in the game by any means. If you were looking to go fast and take chances the meridian 117 or the Devastator would both be much better opens. But if you genuinely just want to surf some pow I've had a ton of fun on the Pescado skiing tight terrain.

Turn radius doesn’t really matter in trees since you’re gonna slide 99% of your turns rather than carve.

Oh that makes sense, especially in less than perfect conditions.

any votes for pontoons? I just see a lot of them cheap on ebay

I think I want to go skiing with you man. Must be a lot of snow to be considering pontoons.

Could have utilized them at Squaw a couple weeks ago...since then they've had like 12' of snow.

I was there. It was amazing. My Metals weren’t nearly wide enough. My Subaru didn’t survive the trip. It was all worth it.

I had trouble too on Kye 110s, they have a lot of rocker and on paper should be great. My technique is not great and the snow was waist deep, super heavy, and grabby. I'm looking for something wider but not a pure pow ski, looking at Black Crows Nocta, Moment Meridian 117, maybe 4frnt Inthayne if that's of any use to you.

What happened to your subie? My VW Alltrack was phenomenal in deep snow. I thought about taking my Taco but the interior space of the Alltrack coupled with the roofbox makes it easier for ski trips.

Wide enough to float in pow, cuts through trees (really nimble and turny) is fine for the park aswell.

going down steep unplowed road, truck in front of me braked hard because a car coming up the hill spun out. I braked, lost traction, front of the car hit the snow bank, caused the car to spin, slid down the hill backwards into the truck. Smashed on front and back. Luckily no one was hurt

Bummer. I got my front end stuck in a snow bank the other day in a similar situation. Miraculously no dents. Being a little more cautious though. Yesterday I picked a more conservative parking spot and later I made pow turns where I normally park on the way back to my car. Yolos.

What giant pow skis are you gonna get?
