JemsHere’s my take on sticky rails as I’ve basically mastered the art of knowing when a rail is sticky before I’ve even hit it.
When it’s sunny outside, even if it’s cold, water will form in droplets on the rail and will keep it lubricated for a smooth slide. Once the sun goes down the rail becomes dry and I guess you could say “rubbery” or slow.
When it goes from above 32 degrees F° to below usually ice forms and snkw
sticks to the rails making it unbearably sticky and grainy and slow.
When its above 32 and there’s water covering the rail from the slush usually the rails gonna be in it’s best shape

john18061806I've definitely run into days where it's the exact opposite of everything you said. Lots of days where one rail isn't slide-able and another is super slick. Stickiest rail I've ever hit was a fat tube in a light mist around 34 degrees, but the dfd 4" tube was stupid slick.
I do agree that dry rails are usually a little sticky though, sometimes not. But pack some veggie oil and isopropyl in a spray bottle and go hard, the rail will be dangerously slick for ~20-30 min. A lot of waxes can do the trick too but you gotta rub it in super hard, spray bottle method is easier. I would love it if park crews would melt wax onto rails every few days...
JemsI’ve got a wax deodorant stick that does the job very well whenever something’s sticky.
john18061806That's genius. I would do that but park crew yells at me if I put anything on the rails. I fucking hate it, I swear they all have an IQ of under 65 or some shit.
Nickc88PRO TIP: dont put wax on rails, instead us PAM or any other non stick spray. It sounds like a joke but it will work amazingly well on all metal or pvc rails. we have some people down here at Big boulder that do it.
Oh and it probably wont fuck your skis.
JemsPam will make it unbelievably slippery, wax doesn’t
Phillydog1I'm shocked that rub on ski wax could be bad for a ski's base. RIP I won't do that again
