In today's internet age of skiing, we have lost a certain right of passage for the upcoming ski season. Sure, its cool to check out the NS front page and see the new Fall edits and we can comment on them together but we dont have that collective stoke that you get from getting everyone in the same room. I am talking about the ski movie premier.
Back when almost everything was DVD, there would be at least 3-4 premiers in major cities and ski towns. It was a chance to get your buddies together, head to the local venue (Boulder Theater was my favorite), hang out with the Pro skiers, get a bag of free SWAG, enter a raffle for free gear, and watch the newest ski movie on a big screen while surrounded by the local ski community. There was a certain feeling you got walking out of a ski movie premier, its like an overwhelming excitement to shred for the upcoming season. You just knew that once the premier dropped, it was only a matter of weeks before the lifts opened.
The problem now is that since content is free and streaming, we can just watch something drop from our laptop. That and instead of a few big name productions we have more smaller team edits. So how can be bring back the movie premier? If there was a way to get in touch with venues and also the smaller team edits and find a way to have the media pre-loaded at the venue then play each edit in a row. The total time would be about the same as a standard old school movie and since its pre-loaded it will be in 4k or whatever max quality it was filmed in. Imagine going to a local theater and seeing Here After, Ruka and some of the other dope edits on the big screen?
Anyway, just an idea to throw out.
