Going cat skiing in purgatory this weekend. Not sure if I should ride my Bibbys or Ghost chants. I’m conflicted because I trust the bibbys a ton and know they’ll hold up at speed or on a sketchy patch of snow but also the ghost chants will float like crazy and be super fun but are also super soft and not great at speed.
i say Bibbys. just cause even while cat skiing, it might not be all perfect dream pow, right? it's not like the bibby won't shred the ideal stuff too
im also a big fan of riding whatever im more used to. ive switched back to skinnier skis that im used to on a pow day cause i wasn't as dialed on my newer fatties
I'd take the Bibby's for sure. If you know em and you trust em, that's the most important thing. I killed it with timing yesterday and ended up getting some killer untracked runs here in Mammoth. We've got a lot of snow and I was sort of contemplating taking something looser out like a Catamaran or an ARV 116 but I just ended up grabbing my Bibby's. I didn't regret it, I got first chair on 9 (think big steep no speed limit bowls) and even with no tracks in front of me I still hit patches of wind effect, buff, and some chunks in the runout. It's very rare that the snow is absolutely perfect, so I'll trade a little float/looseness for stability and confidence.
