BIG BOULDER needs a PARK PASS

Every weekend me or one of my friends LAND on someone whose either laying on the landing, or standing on the landing of the jumps. This is supposedly "our fault" for not having a spotter. We talked (nicely) to Ski Patrol and he pushed the entire situation on us. saying "Her Der, you need to have a friend ride down to the kicker of each jump, look, and give you a signal"... Okay that sounds great... on paper.

Wouldn't it just be easier if you guys legitimized the fact that you're now catering to "park riders" by setting up these large kickers and calling this place "The Content Factory" ????? The jumps are simply TOO big for rental skiers. They blow out of there bindings EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!!!

Yesterday I legitimately jumped over someone. (Low-key fire) but I honestly couldn't be more pissed off about it!! I scoped the jump out from the top. Nobody had hit it before me... as im going off this lady STOOD UP directly under my feet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE TF DID SHE COME FROM?? WHY WAS SHE LAYING DIRECTLY UNDER THE TAKE OFF??! What if my skis clipped her helmet and I crashed, leaving me with an injury hindering the rest of my ski career? I'd NEVER forgive that person, OR Big Boulder for the incident. But it would technically be "My fault" ... NAH, FUCK THAT.

May I suggest...
Implement a Park Pass!
-position a staff member to check passes at the top of the run, and a gate to pass thru. TA- DA! Problem Solved.

You can even have fun with it!!!! Make it purple, Call it a "Boulder Badge" or some shit. Just fix the problem before another person dies here.
(Maybe make a moat/trench with fire and spikes that riders have to gap to even ride the bigger park??)

It happened ALL last year, and it's even WORSE this year. The mountain is so close to home but its at the point where I just don't feel safe landing/taking off switch in ANY of Boulders jumps anymore!! Dedicated park riders should NOT have to worry about wether were going to be fucking sued (or injured for life) from landing on Jerry, because WHOEVER taught Jerry how to ski, F A I L E D to mention the part where YOU DO NOT STAND ON THE LANDINGS OF THE JUMPS. EVEN IF YOU BAIL. PICK UR SHIT UP AND MOVE UR TO THE SIDE.

>Im not saying I never been "down for the count" on a failed jump landing, NOR am I trying to discourage young Jerry from sending it. ALL Im saying that when the hill gets crowded, the jumps are a mine field. Im not shredding at a place where IM at fault for someone else's lack of etiquette.

When I hit a kid, it feels like shit.
When I hit an adult, It's a fight!

This is so true. In Freedom its just annoying but when you're hitting the jump line in Love its straight up dangerous. I've even seen instructors taken little kids through the jump line and just ski all over the landings

Dawg, yesterday was a straight up Jerry massacre. Staff pretty much told me to go fuck my self and that I should "ski down, look at the jump. hike BACK up, then hit it" Sounds perfect guys! Just the way it should be.......


Freestyle skiing/snowboarding is a dangerous-ass sport. YOU CAN DIE OUT HERE. I can not believe how careless the staff is to such an endangering problem. We deserve safe take offs and landings.

I wish they would stop making insta-bangers for just like 2 seconds and address this problem.

Im seeing more and and more places with fences next to the kickers blocking anyone from riding around on the knuckle. The place I’m at in Austria has it for their large jump line and no one sits in landings, unless just having blown up which if solo and down can be unfortunate for all involved. I’ve had bad wrecks where limping off to the side took a minute. Luckily mostly on bigger rail features that would be more visible than a jump.

Park passes are dumb imo and enforcing them at boulder would be a pain. No more cutting between trails or anything sounds lame + the amount of fencing they would need would be absurd.

I've never had an issue with people in the landings at boulder. I am terrified that i will get landed on if i fall on a jump there. Jump lines that start at the top of the hill are much safer than halfway down the hill since you can hang out up top and wait to see what the person before you did.

Park pass just isnt realistic at boulder. Theres barley any non park trails so people wouldnt come since theres only 4 trails to ski at that point.

We did that until our park manager went to Cutters Camp and was told it was unsafe because people couldn't scope the jump before hitting it. So i have mixed feelings on that method, it is effective. I guess you could speed check over the lip to check it out or duck the ribbon but then that sets a bad example so everyone starts doing it.

In washington (snoqualmie pass), everyone that goes into the "big park" (park with rails and over 20 jumps) needs a pass. Sorta solves the problem, Jerry cant get in on accident. BUT if 10 year old Jerry is with dad who signs his life away he can go in. So it only solves half the issue. Though having harder features in one section and only dancefloor boxes in the other helps. Also in the description when you said "low key fire" I died

Oh, I teach here in Washington, and you aren't allowed to bring them into the park, you have to be teaching a freeride class or a park class to go in. If I did and a kid got hurt I would get FUKing roasted.

Sounds blissful. I only ever rode out west once. Big Bear for a full year while I was living in LA...
I still daydream of that magical mountain.

Damn you better come west and ski whistler or if your in cali ski mammoth they are getting dumped on. Some teens sometimes never go in the park. They'll freeride and drop offa clifs. Only when the conditions are shit, icy as fuk, they come in.

Park passes didn't work out as well as people hoped. I guess it sort of worked at some places but not really. I think the biggest thing is having parks next to each other and strongly recommending people ride through another park that's more suited for their ability level. Also seems like having an intermediate ish park with some smaller features under the lift versus your biggest parks can work. It sucks as well because you wanna see your friends shredding, but noobs focus in on the park they see under the lift and will avoid the 5 other parks that you're building for people their ability level.

People don't know, don't care, and your not allowed to tell people to get the fuck out of the park. Bummer because a lot of "park injuries" aren't even that. People ski off jump knuckles to flat and get hurt, people just fall making turns in the park. Collisions on inruns and landings. People hitting that huge jump at the end of the day because their friends bet them they wouldn't.

I wish on the insurance side of things you could document A: Park injuries or B: stupid fucks who happened to be in the park when they got hurt.

I'm happy to see how healthy the industry is even with all the dumbasses and some gnarly court cases. That said it always worries me.

Hell I remember a bunch of people on NS defending side jumpers as legitimate learning and calling me an asshole for saying other wise. It's not like some massive game changing injuries stemmed from people side jumping and getting hurt or anything.

Some parks really suck at building stuff for all ability levels. The rails are too tall, too long, too steep, jumps are all big, and there's no where for the newer skier to work their way up. That kinda sucks. But in the parks where there is 75% smaller features and multiple parks for newer skiers, then there's no excuse for going through the medium-large parks.

Big Boulder Is actually really good for this. They have little tiny features on one side of the leaning slope because they know that what kids want to do there, regardless of ability level. The problem is kids not understanding how difficult the stuff in the actual park is and I have no idea how to fix that

Cyrstal mountain got sued, they can have "jibs" but no jumps. Super unfortunate, but the park crew there makes huge "jibs" that can be hit like jumps

I'm 100% pro-park pass but I've never seen or heard of a single park pass program being implemented correctly. Resorts have tried but they always miss a critical aspect that nullifies the entire purpose of the park pass.

My ideal park pass program would be like this..


- Online portal for education/testing. If you're familiar with sites like 3point5 that would be perfect. (if that's still a thing. they change the name every year)

- A dedicated room/building at the resort where people can get the same education the day they arrive if they haven't done it online.

- A hard closure the entire perimeter of the parks that require the park pass. Medium and Large parks only imo. Small and XS parks should be accessible to anyone, anytime.

- A school outreach program that does the same education for any schools that offer trips to the resort as part of a club or after school program.

- A FUCKING MARKETING CAMPAIGN OF ANY KIND pushing correct park etiquette. Whens the last time NSAA or Burton put out a smart style video? 2007?

- And lastly, make it RFID access. Anything short of an RFID auto gate is a waste of time for everyone. Paying for an attendant to stand there all day every day is silly, a waste of money, and huge liability. After 2 or 3 seasons you'd probably ROI the infrastructure for the gate itself and if you made the pass $1 you'd do it even sooner while becoming a profit center for the resort.


People like to talk shit about park pass programs that have failed miserably but I've yet to ever see one done correctly. The industry is reaching a critical juncture where resorts are looking at the cost/benefit ratio for even having parks at all and it's not looking good. How many catastrophic incidents will it take in larger parks for resorts to just give up and put resources elsewhere?

As much as you all hate VR, it's going to be up to the big players in the industry to do it right the first time because they have the money and resources to do it.

There's really only going to be two choices resorts have in the future. Shift the liability and responsibility to the rider even more by implementing a park pass, or just get rid of big parks. It's that simple.

Dude, Boulder on the weekends is a Jerry mad house, I landed and directly smashed into a kid AND mom last year because mom was pushing her son down the landing of the last kicker ON A FUCKING SLED. A PLASTIC-fuck-SLED. I SHIT YOU THE PHUCK NOT. How is this shit at "my fault" Im a dedicated skier looking to better myself at the sport and they side with the jackwagon that comes once a year.

A park pass, pass checker, and fences all around the park REALLY wouldn't be that hard bro. GOD FORBID someone's gotta go set the fences up... Drill hole, put stick in hole, repeat. OMG such manual labor would be heinous.. also Who the fuck cares about cutting between trails? you reach the bottom in .04 seconds anyways.. Just go up again. They're open until 10pm. You can ride every trail and feature 700 times before you even eat lunch.

Im so god damn fed up with shredding at Boulder. Too bad its the closest park on my drifter pass so im shit out of luck. Its also hella annoying that the mountain ignores complaints like these but posts a stupid insta-banger every 30 seconds. Had to un-follow. Felt disrespected asf tbh

Damn. Snoqualmie stopped building jumps for years after the Salvini case. I'm pretty sure they started building them again but never actually been there.

14 mil settlement will do that to you though.

Okay so if you have to skip a jump every couple runs its not a big deal since it takes .04s to reach the bottom. Or on busy days alternate spotting with a friend since that is the safest way to do things. Your on tiny east coast mountains learn to adapt and enjoy.

Cutting between runs is fun as shit there sometimes usually you can always find fun gaps and jibs.

Can't see boulder investing in doing a park pass right like TL said so i don't see a shit ton of fencing and a lazy park attendant being of any benefit. Cbk did it didnt work and straton as well, those are the two places i have ridden that had one and i dont think it made any difference.

Calmly educating people in the wrong and emphasising safety is the best thing i have found to be most effective. If everyone did this not just few people i think there would be great results.

Lmao “had to unfollow felt disrespected” it’s an Instagram page, it’s not the marketing departments job to cater to your complaints. Theyre there to market the resort as a fun enjoyable place to ski. Which it is. I skied BB on a weekend last spring and didn’t experience anything you’re talking about. Maybe instead of sticking it to the man by unfollowing their fucking Instagram page, you can use some of your ambition and make a presentation to show upper management, they’ll either consider it or send your entitled ass back down stairs and you’ll come running back to NS to bitch about it.

But now I’m afraid to do that and I worked super hard to do in the first place. But 90 percent of the riders don’t know wtf park etiquette is. They don’t care about the safety of park riders as much as they post about (on they Instagram... every 30 seconds) so that’s where that came from.

But yeah, I’ll start working on a nice little PowerPoint between my full time job and my other job...

Also u said u were there last year once. I’m here every weekend everyyear. It’s my home mountain. I’m just disappointed about this whole situation and NOBODY is bringing it to the light. Sorry if that offended you but you really can go suck a fatty call in me entitled n shit my dude.

If you put as much effort into a professional presentation as you did bitching and moaning on a ski forum like a 15 year old, you could probably make something happen lol. What the fuck do you expect, head of mtn ops to be casually browsing NS, see your bitch fit and decide to issue park passes?

Park passes dont do shit. These are my big revolutionary ideas. A mirror on a pole on knuckle that makes landing visible to those approaching jump. Or a green light that is turned on when motion is detected as someone clears thru the landing zone. These are probably overkill for most resorts, but if it saves a kid from getting landed on then neato. Surprised in our helicopter mom sue happy culture there is not something like this in place. Or maybe there is?

What the fuck do you expect, head of mtn ops to be casually browsing NS, see your bitch fit and decide to issue park passes?



I find the retort rather entertaining to be quite honest with you . sipping brews, stirring the pot. (I don’t actually want u to suck a dick man lol) but Maybe he will see it tho or someone that works there or some Boulder team rider. Tthese incidents really bum me tf out. It feels horrible to slam into someone smaller and unsuspecting. . I usually just leave aft it happens cuz I just feel.. bleh. Day ruined.

But for real, That really isn’t a bad idea tho to put something together.!I’m just so fuckin busy that I just can’t atm

Ya they started building them again, its taken them a while for them to make good features. But i think there was a change in management and now the park is back and way better than previous years. They did start a park pass thing tho.You pay 5 dollars and sign your life away.

Snoqualmie does this pretty well, they have an intermediate/beginner lark that anyone can get into, but for the decent sized features and advanced park you need a pass, works out pretty well, but what we really need is entrance features to keep out the 9 year olds

Lol u nerds don't like watching Jerry witness Bluetooth Boarder Bubba come up short and land on Jerry Jr. (who's been laying on the knuckle for about 7 minutes now in yard sale mode)? Common, we won't get moments like this with park passes.

7 springs had a park pass several years ago for their larger park however it only lasted a year ( watch video, sign waiver, maybe had to pay a few bucks). It didn't eliminate all issues however it decreased them on jumps but not superpipe. I completely understand your frustration, we have all been there and had closes calls. Resorts need to do a better job of educating individuals of park etiquette whether it is through easily videos linked to park page or even instructors following proper protocol. There are so many unwritten rules that can't be explained on a sign or just assumed that others know.

Brightons not the slightest bit comparable to Big Boulde. There you have a mountain with plenty terrain, at Boulder their large park line is their steepest trail. PA skiing isn't the same as big mountain mountain skiing, its limited to what we have, a system like this wouldnt work simply for that reason alone. Go look at a trail map of Brighton compared to Big Boulder.

Hey man! In 13 years of riding at boulder i have yet to land on anybody. Park passes will never happen there and if the jerries bother you this much. Ski on the weekday.

Chubz.I’d be more worried about bb putting faster lifts in than issuing park passes lol. Slowest lifts i’ve ever been on.


THANK YOU I skied Mount Snow three times a week the last two years, and it is now turning into an absolute Jerry playground. I finally decided to send a weekend down to big boulder, just to slide on ice avoiding Jerry after Jerry, while spending half of my days falling asleep on the lifts. I am a cautious and respectful skier, however I actually almost got a serious injury because a Jerry cut right in front of me on a groomer and sent me off the side of the trail into a ton of rocks. Not trying to diss hard on BB- If you're from PA I guess I understand the hype but other than that I don't know why everyone raves about this hill so much.

I was at BB all this weekend. Jerry’s yard sailing all over the place. They were literally going up to the kickers and standing on the lip and just taking it all in... Some of them just stood right on the deck, centered behind the kicker to take a breather. I was gonna take pics but it kinda felt petty lol.. Someone above said big boulder isn’t big enough to separate the parks entirely. I disagree. They could totally split the hill 50/50. Would Jerry like this idea? No. Should we count Jerry’s vote here on NS (a park riders forum) No.

Maybe take all the features away from Jack Frost and make BB the park riders hill? Either way, the runs were mobbed the entire day with Jerry’s family all skiing in fucking jeans👖
