Surface Skis

Hi Newschoolers,
I have been looking at a few different pairs of surface skis as they are on sale right now. I have not really heard much about them from anyone. I looked up a few older threads which were mostly about how they are now making skis again. I am curious as to how good of a ski they make in general. I have been looking at a pair of MTN Blanks. How durable are they and how playful are these? If you own a different pair how are those.

I can’t say much about Surface, but I had 2015 Outsiders and they were a very fun, versatile ski.

I have a pair of Outsider Blanks and they’re super sick! Stiff but still playful cuz of the insane rocker

Are the pair your looking at priced in the $150 range? If so I think it's a pretty good buy going in with low expectations at a low price point and you won't lose much if they're absolute crap.

Just checked STP and they don't have any surface skis listed anymore, they had a bunch of models around $150-199

Believe those are the jr models. they are usually 500-800$ now 300-400$

They're usually like two year old models, low demand sizes, etc.

There's no way in hell I'd pay $800 for surfaces. $300 is pushing it but I'm a cheapskate.

I don't think you understand how cheap 300$ for new skis.

I was referring specifically to Surface, I feel anyone who buys them is taking a chance given their quality issues in the past, I can't speak firsthand as I've never used a pair I'm just expressing my opinion. $300 is on the lower end for a decent pair of new skis sure, but $800 pretty much gets your pick.

What size are you shopping? What other skis are you looking at?

I read that part in your initial post. Are you shopping comparable skis as well? Are you looking at the 172 or 182?

172s I’m more looking rn but I’m debating getting them in the future maybe next year.

If you're not looking to buy immediately I'd hold off until spring and shop end of season, steeper discounts on more variety, just my two cents though!

i agree, if you have time on your side i'd wait til spring and check end of season prices

ive never skied surface skis but i do hear lots of good things and lots of bad things. i do think i recall the Blanks having extruded bases though so i'd check on that if i were you

I bought the surface odyssey just after new years and they are worth about $300. That's what I paid for them so I'm happy with my purchase but I probably would do it again if I had the chance.
I've had them for a little over a month now and the top sheets are chipping all over the place. But the rest of the ski seems to be holding up pretty good.
Just my 2 cents

I got the park blanks in 180 and they are pretty good. They haul ass on hard snow and can stomp landings, but they are super stiff so if that's not your thing then look elsewhere. Also the topsheets are hella weak

Are they all super still, they kinda seem like fuk-a-round skis and spring skis if i could get them for that cheap

I mean for me they're good for harder snow, they don't really seem like they'd be fun in slush. Like they'd cut through the snow rather than surfing it I guess

Yeah and also some of the other models have insane rocker so those might be better in slush idk I haven't ridden them

i had a really good time on park blanks, which are the same as mtn blanks but 10 mm narrower through the whole ski. i really really liked em for mid season shred but i was on my outsiders most of the time for spring stuff. blanks are super responsive super stiff chargers which i really dig, but theyre not very forgiving on landings. they feel really good to jump on and are really quick on rails but you cant really surf stuff out you have to land pretty bolts. they also chipped and delammed way earlier than any of my other pairs of surfaces, but i think they make some sacrifices beyond not having a graphic to keep the price down. worth the price for sure though

overall i only have good things to say about surface. ive really liked every pair of theirs ive ridden. if youre looking for a playful ski give some serious consideration to the outsiders in the size up from what you would first go for. ive literally never had a bad day on them in any conditions

I have park blanks. They’re more jump skis. They’re so stiff you can literally feel the camber but it’s all personal preference.

Only pair of surfaces I’ve ever had I snapped in half. Def buy at your own risk with cheaper skis and think to yourself what you plan on using them for. If u go hard in the park smashing into things / trannying things surface prolly isn’t for u.

Am I the only one amazed on how people have skis they use just for spring or certain conditions? Unless they’re like your backyard/summer skis that makes sense, but still I use my TWalls for everything. I’m not hating or anything I just can’t see how you guys afford it.

I would buy I have a pair of park blanks and o love em there kinda a backup skis but super playful and I insane rocker and pretty durable for my park needs
