Let gets Chad's Gap for the win in Alta's photo contest

Alta is having a contest for the most iconic photo ever published in Powder magazine. One of photos is of Chad jumping the gap in 1999. Chad's Gap changed the scene for BC kickers, so let the Newschoolers voice be heard because we aren't #scaredoftheair . https://www.powder.com/alta-photo-contest/

You're wrong about that. For as long as I can remember Benson has been taking skiers to rowdy locations and puts in more work than just about any skier in making an idea a reality. He's the fucking man and has been taking photos of airborn skiers well before NS was started would be my guess. You've got my vote Brent

Learn your history, boy. It was after T-Hall blew up his ankles so ski patrol wanted to get even. Teddy Bear Crisis has the footage of the blowing up attempt in the credits.

I know all of that. I'm just surprised they opted for dynamite rather than tearing it down with shovels. It's something I've always been curious about.

Because its a giant mass of snow that takes days to build up and would take a full day of work to tear down. Jesus Christ you're dense.

Grizzly Gulch isn't inbounds. Alta isn't exactly liable for anything that happens out there. I imagine that was a funny conversation trying to convince Titus or Howie or Onno or whoever was in charge of the explosives cache back in the day that they needed to use dynamite to blow up a backcountry jump.

Except Alta has been sued multiple times by people who were injured in Grizz and they didn't want to risk wasting more time on frivolous lawsuits. Did you forget its the U.S.?

Please do. Alta provides parking specifically for Grizz access so that might be why people decided to sue Alta in the past and why Alta felt the need to spend the resources to take this down after Tanner's accident.

In the article just posted it said be came up short and candide was the first to make it. Did he come up short but still ride away?

Candide took it twice the first time Chad's was hit. He came up short the first time and cleared the second time as in the photo. By then the sun was going down and the in-run was starting to freeze up.
