Seriously, in all of my years of living here, this may be the best snow conditions I've ever seen. about 7 or 8 feet of right side up blower on top of 2 meters of perfectly bonded base...

its so bottomless that it's sorta terrifying at times.

I tried to ski KT on Sunday morning before the cold dry shit came in, it was waist deep and 110 wasn't enough though technique may have factored into it- I haven't skied that much fresh in years.

I went to my buddy’s spring fest ski club assembly type thing at Westminster last spring and fuckin won a pair of these in the raffle lmfao they are the most ridiculous skis I’ve ever seen. Literally like two snowboards .


also it’s 50 degrees and raining this weekend is going to cold so it’s gonna be a fucking ice sheet next week.

But thats east coast hardcore real stuff maaaannn...

Anybody know if any North Lake shops have 120mm+ demos?

Editing for running list of widest demos this season:
Granite Chief (Truckee): 112mm
Dave's: 120mm
Tahoe Sports Hub: Haven't called yet but prob 120mm (Bents)
Starthaus: Prob 115mm
Moment: Maybe the Moment guys can chime in. Any Chipotle Bananas available to demo?

fuck i wish i was in tahoe, just realized its been since 2011 that i got to enjoy that sweet deep powder. Showed up on a thursday with hardly any snow for the competition that weekend but it ended up snowing face deep powder by saturday. best memory of tahoe ill never forget was going off a huge cliff and not even realizing till i was airborn because the visibility and powder we to deep

I will prob try to drive up from SF on Sunday if the pass is open. If anyone wants to ski Squalpine on Mon or Tues HMU unless you're a park rat (which is cool but not what I'm there for). I could use some encouragement at the top of the Palisades :)

So jealous.
I'm doing a ski season at Panorama, BC at the moment. We had a good 30-40cm last saturday which was pretty awesome. There's a bowl around the back of the resort where it all windpacks and it was easily 50cm+ in some places. Plus we get super dry and floaty 'champage' powder rather than the wet stuff some places get.

However before that, we'd gone about 2 straight weeks without proper snow. Hell, it was like living back in the UK again.. the odd 2cm overnight and everyone went mental calling it a powder day lmao

View of DP from the ridge behind my spot in KB. It's wild though. The park is finally back up and running to some extent at Northstar and now we're getting dumped on again. Not a bad problem to have. Some of the best snow I've ridden. Deep and blower. I've only hit the star for ski areas in this storm but got some good runs in. Thinking of heading to Kirkwood with my buddy on monday. Haven't gotten a day in yet.

Fuck yeah winter!!!!

I know we the West is just getting done digging out from this, but 1 week out is looking scary. Models have been in agreement on another large AR. And as of now, it’s warm. Really hope this trends colder then showing now. Last model run was worst of worst case.

325mm my sticks are 187cm and 192cm. The long ones are 110mm Stormriders I think I'll manage ok.

SW flows put down some decent amounts in park city. Its fun if you cant get over to LCC/BCC because ive skied some real deep turns in some spots that i havent touched since like high school. The cottonwoods have been getting absolutely smoked though, its great to see. Might be able to lay down some corn laps in may, maybe later if it keeps up.

It also depends upon visibility. In terms of pure accumulation there's a good chance the pass will close for a while on any day with an inch or more of accumulation per hour.

I assume we're talking Donner Pass? A lot depends on wind and visibility as stated above. If big rigs start loosing traction up top they usually just shut 'er down.

I feel like they've been reaaaaalllly cautious in the past couple years, closing it for extended periods and running chain controls when there is no snow or ice on the roadway. I think they'd be better served spending their resources on plows and speed enforcement for broguy looking to put his rig in the ditch.

I saw a woman putting chains onto her van to drive up 28 from incline towards kings beach a couple days ago. i slowed down and told her there wasn't a single piece of snow or ice anywhere on the highway and it was just a little bit wet.. but i guess she prefers to drive at 17mph and tear up the asphalt

I’ve met people who have done it but you’re right that it’s no joke. Plus I would never ski something that could get me in trouble AND broke off, no thanks

It's not snow that closes it.. it's spinouts, wind, and amount of dingdongs coming up from the bay area in 4x4's that have bald tires on them.

literally means nothing until it happens... but this is what open snow is saying...




- For the weekend we are watching 2 cold systems. A weaker system moves in to our South Friday night bringing 2-5 inches of snow by Saturday morning. Then more snow showers for Saturday, increasing later in the day as the next storm moves in. We could see an additional 2-6 inches of snow by Saturday evening. Ridge winds of 55+ mph on Saturday, increasing into the evening. Snow levels around 3,500 feet.

- A stronger storm moves in Saturday evening into Sunday morning, with snow showers lingering into Sunday evening before clearing out Sunday night. We could see 1-2 feet of additional snowfall by Sunday morning, and a final 3-6 inches by Sunday evening. Ridge winds increasing up to 100 mph Saturday night into Sunday morning. Then coming down later Sunday afternoon.

- We could see scattered light snow showers on Monday into Tuesday from a weak system. Another cold system moving down from the north Tuesday night into Wednesday could bring several more inches of snow. Highs remain in the 20's.

- There could be another cold storm moving down from the north for the weekend of the 16th bringing more snow. This system could possibly pull in some warmer subtropical moisture.

- The active pattern could continue into the week of the 18th.



I absolutely couldn't give a crap what happens the weekend of the 16th haha. that's presidents day weekend and I have absolutely no intentions of skiing around that period of time what with all the riff-raff that's due to happen with about a million Tourons inbound.
