It's a community run mountain so the manager doesn't have as much power as the board of directors (who are all mostly old people still) but its a cool mountain with a great park compared to the other small mountains in the state.

Parks don't always translate to making $$$ unfortunately. Also sometimes the owner has people building a park, but they're just clueless. A lot of shitty parks are due to the people building them, not necessarily the owners. Sure maybe the owner won't let them build a massive jump, or maybe they didn't get as much snowmaking or cat time as they wanted, but I've seen too many mtns that have park staff with janky rail takeoffs and general setups.

Some of those places really just need somebody to come in, and take the effort to build shit cleanly. The mtn might not have as many resources but every mountain COULD have a good park. Many just don't for whatever reason.

If your mtn has a shitty park, talk to them. Don't be a douche, because you might not know as much as you think you do, and that attitude never goes well anyway. Offer suggestions, try to get on the park crew and build stuff better. Show them pictures of how jumps are supposed to look.

Honestly nowadays a lot of places can build pretty decent jumps with the cat. Sure some of the smaller places might have some crusty dude who doesn't give a fuck. Idk. I've worked at places where a jump was build from a bladefull of snow by hand. Snow farmed from the woods if you needed more, and probably the shittiest tools.

Even some of those crusty old guys are pretty good in a cat too. If you can get them to understand what a proper jump should be they can probably build you something decently close.

Some of those people also know a ton about snowmaking, grooming, running a mtn in general. To come at them like you're a genius and they're cavemen because you know more about this newfangled trick skiing might not be the best approach. Talk to them, be civil, work with them. Offer to help out, or ask about getting a job there. If your mountain has a shitty park, take it upon yourself to try and make it better while you're around. It might work, it might not, but then at least you gave it a shot, and that goes a long way past complaining about it.

Some places will never change. Some places fucking hate terrain parks. You'll never know what can happen till you give it a shot though. There are plenty of places that used to have whack parks, stepping up. Can you help your mtn be the next?

Reminds me of Le Relais in Quebec City from 2003 to 2009. The park manager was the resort's managers friend's son. He gave no fucks and was all about the money. He would come in 2 times a season, threw a bunch rails and snow in a pile and went to Stoneham (rival resort) because the park was better.

It would probably be closed because the guy would turn everything into a park and then not make any money.

Honestly being a park rider has less to do with the resort, than how smart the guy would. You could have a park rider who understands how to make money and make good decisions, or some retard that makes no profit or even enough to keep the resort running.
