Marijuana Legalization

Everytime I decide to delve into this topic it just frustrates the hell out of me. I won't go into it much but damn. .... . Sure many states have medical provisions and a good amount are legal recreational, however in most of those states, that doesn't protect you from getting fired for using on your off time. Also those medical and recreational rights don't really apply to anyone with any sort of civil service or license in a medical field; pretty much still silently banned from partaking. It's ridiculous that it's still federally illegal.

It's great to see the fast moving legalization efforts, but I'm just inpatient and annoyed. Overall I do think it will be legalized soon. 70% chance in 5 years, 100% chance in 10 years.

Employers should ALWAYS have to the right to make hiring decision based on consumption. Would you want a doctor opporating on you whos high as a kite? Or a welding in a factory is a huge liability if under the influence. And before anything about alcohol gets said, people with a commercial drivers license have a legal limit of .04 for these same reasons.

I mean being high on the job is completely different from smoking in your off time. Until there is an unbiased study done, (I doubt there will be one until it is rescheduled) to exactly understand how it affects the brain, I get why surgeons should not be users in their off time... Welding under the influence of anything is a dumb idea, but again, as long as you have half decent quality control, I have no idea why you should have a problem with welders smoking weed in their off time.

Private companies should be able to do whatever they want.

Weed will be legal soon, but I don't agree with the government forcing private companies to hire people that smoke. If the company wants non smokers then let them hire non smokers.


Also, if it does become legal it's not like Joe schmoe sitting in an office will be proscecuted for smoking. There is no risk there. It would be the doctor's, surgeons, pilots, cops etc...that need to have clear heads/could be on call and have lives in their hands....at least that would be my guess.

This is what I'm getting at. It's more adventageous to have a coke or opiate addiction in terms of testing windows. Explode your heart on cocaine Friday, test clean Monday. Not advocating for that tho cuz you will ruin your life and it will eventually come out.

You can drink 15 beers and show up 10hrs to work and no one will know any better. Why should someone regardless of their profession not be able to use thc if they have a day or two of off time before returning to work? No reason.

And if people r gonna come to work stoned, they probably already are. Legalization doesn't just all of a sudden create those sorts of despicable habits.

I live in Canada. What debate? I just wish they would privatize the dispensaries and issue growing licenses to anyone who wants to grow decent weed. One Store in the entire province of BC is ridiculous.
Once the US politicians see how much legalization is a non-issue north of the boarder, they will follow suit.

Then, watch politicians and police chiefs that were sentencing people to life for weed, start their own grow ups the next week and publicize their investments.

I'd give it a 10% chance of being legalized in the next 5 year.

It is pretty ridiculous that you can get fired for smoking weed on your free time in a state where it's legal though. I get when it was just a CO thing, but a good chunk of the west is legal these days. That's like getting fired at work for drinking beers a couple of days before. Sure, you're not allowed to get drunk at work(most jobs) but you can absolutely enjoy some dranks in you're free time if you're 21.

Also funny how intense they want to watch every step of the process in legal states. Need to know everything about each individual plant. Then you've got romaine, and it's like "everyone be getting ecoli and we have no fucking idea where it came from. We've almost narrowed down which hemisphere it came from". Fucking romaine.

Fuck no. Pregnant women shouldn't drink but alcohol is legal. I get that it's a different situation, but you should be allowed to do whatever.

It shouldn't be illegal to eat tide pods, jerkoff to planet earth, and drink a 12 pack of mtn dew. Honestly that sounds like a solid saturday night imo anyway.

Some people are allergic af to peanuts, peanuts are legal. All drugs should be at the very least decriminalized. What you do in your free time is up to you.

Don't do it. Look at what happened in Canada. Vehicle fatalities went up, sexual assaults went up, addiction centres are overflowing, organized crime is on the rise, use of hard drugs it rampant.

I get that, it's pretty obvious. The legal age right now is 21 so not sure where you're going with that.

Also people smoked weed long before it was legal anywhere, people are smoking weed legally now, people are smoking weed illegally now, all legalization is doing is taking out the black market(trying to) and making the industry more regulated.

Keeping weed illegal because it may impact a small amount of people negatively is insane. People are going to smoke, weed is everywhere, the best thing that can be done is to legalize and regulate it. At least if nothing else people will know what/how much they are smoking/eating.

Ye that's not gonna happen bud. Montana just "legalized" but at best dispensaries won't be open for another year, and the state wont see benefits until months after that as well, not to mention the continued opposition from the republican party. Since the people of Montana voted to pass the initiative, there have already been attempts to repeal it by delaying the opening of dispensaries and lawsuits against what the people voted on. Also the governor is trying to change how the tax revenue from legal sales will be spent from what the people voted on.

So no, people will always be opposed to legal weed and there are so many roadblocks in place and that will be put in place in the process of other states trying to legalize

A bunch of towns in VT passed the marijuana sales legislation this week, about damn time. Dispensaries won't arrive until October of 22 I believe.

The people who are against it are the ones that face a shit load of beer each weekend. It's amazing that you can get shitfaced on alcohol but you cannot responsibly use another substance without repercussion.

.04 applies to CDL holders in their personal vehicles not at work. They are also categorically ineligible for deferrals in court.

I understand the argument that no one should drive a large truck drunk or high, ever. But to fire someone and prosecute them for having days or weeks old weed in their system under the guise that this was some sort of grave safety violation is completely nonsensical.

What I see more often than not is CDL holders getting mega Vicodin perscriptions for on the job injuries and being more likely to abuse it because they can’t smoke weed ever but they can be blitzed out of their gore on pain pills, that’s perfectly acceptable. Give me a fucking break.

Totally possible but I wouldn't be surprised if we were still 4 or 5 years out.

More states will legalize it in the next few years, but it's been a real slow process. It's possible at any point these days but I remember everyone being convinced it was going to get legalized with obama way back.

It actually could happen now, but I think it's at least 2 or 3 years out. Honestly could be 5-7.

Was pretty cool to see Oregon decriminalize drugs in the last election. I didn't really see that coming and that was a huge step. Also the trickle of states legalizing weed every year makes a big dent. I think in general people care less about it than they used to. The stigma from old fucks of "god dang dope smokers!!!" is dying with them.

Things are changing just wayyyyy to slow for me.

The problem is that the drug war doesn't work. We've throw so much money in it, cause so much collateral damager, and we've gotten nowhere.

It's less about whether cocaine is good for you and more about the personal freedoms we pretend to have in this country. Things are changing but we're a very long way out.

All drugs should be decriminalized in small amounts asap. The penalties for other drug crimes should be wayyyy smaller.

Legalize a huge number of drugs and get doctors to prescribe anything a person wants as long as they prove to the doctor they will use it responsiblly and its not some horrible shit like bath salts.

if somebody wants to do cocaine responsibly they should be able to get a prescription from the pharmacy for 10 grams for 5 bucks. That way they dont have to steal or suck dicks to pay 200$ a gram to yhe drug dealer so they can now keep most of their money and live a healthier more balanced life.

also with drugs that can kill you like heroin or fentanyl, we should have clinics like they have in europe and now canada that give addicts hospital grade purity heroin or hydromorphone to do in a safe clinic.

if they adopted heroin assisted treatment in america right now, then in the year 2025 there would be about 100,000 americans still alive who would have been dead if there was no HAT.

the ppl who are against HAT deserve to have their kids/ get addicted and overdose and die.

if that happened i would literally stand up at their kids funeral and say “haha good move mom and dad!!, i bet you wish you had changed your mind about heroin assisted treatment but its too late now!! OOPS!!
