I always crack up when people come on to NS thinking it's gonna be similar to a more modern internet forum like r/skiing where people are super welcoming and there aren't tons of weird inside jokes. Does it scare some people away? Sure, but I think that without a little bit of gatekeeping this site would become a normie cesspool and not be representative of the newschool skiing community. NS seems so different than the rest of the internet at this point

Newschoolers is the only forum I've ever really participated in, but everything else I've seen is just so different. It seems like we're one of the few internet communities that is an accurate representation of who we actually represent. If that makes sense

There are lots of good forums out there dude. Reddit isn't really your typical "forum". Anyone can see what is posted in r/skiing if it gets front page and also people are following subs of things they don't do often, do at all, understand, etc.

Well that's kinda what I'm saying, I'm just there's some bomb ass knitting threads who's members are a perfect representation of their site/activity. But NS is the same, if you're not "one of us" (whoever tf we are) then you don't stick around. I guess what I'm saying is that for the most part, the homies who stick around here are the exact same homies you run into in the park every day.

Lol whenever a ski (or snowboard, bmx, etc) trick makes it onto big subs like r/videos or r/gifs or whatever, the comments always make me cringe
