Montec outerwear???

Not sure if this should go here or gt so please move if it’s in the wrong spot.

Does anyone have an experience with Montec or know much about the company itself? Hadn’t heard of them till this season but they are all over my social media now and they seem to have a few pros. Curious if they are legit or just another off brand cheap jacket and pant seller.

Also if they are a reliable company does anyone have experience dealing with them from BC? It seems they are based in Sweden but that’s all I really get that’s worth noting from their website.

They're a sub brand of Ridestore in Sweden that also makes Dope clothing. It looks like they're created a new brand to target a different demographic (more tech orientated rather than uni students at apres) but imagine they're made in the same factory and same quality. Check for reviews of Dope quality and they'll probably be relevant to Montec.

I decided to go for a pair fo bibs since the price was really good for the tech stats they were claiming. The fit of the bibs is awesome, it's exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I did not know they were insulated. I will deal with it but I hate insulated pants (I wear a knee brace on each knee, I don't need anything to keep me more warm. I've only skied one day so far so it is too early to comment on durability. The materials feel like good quality and the zippers are definitely nice.

Worst case, I spent $220 for a pair of bibs that last a season or two. Not a bad deal.

Glad to hear quality seems decent...my fear is buying on of these jackets and getting tears in it after a week Haha

Montec is high quality. You can’t go wrong with them plus it’s priced affordably and the designs are sweet

It can happen. I ripped a sleeve off a nice Patagonia jacket that cost more than the montec jackets.



I used to be a gear editor on this site, if I could figure out how to post a review I would in a couple months but it doesn’t seem that regular members can post content anymore.

How insulated are they? I'm also in the knee brace club so would prefer a shell pant but at 25k/25k ratings these sound awesome especially at the price!

I've been using the Dune Jacket and Dune Pants and have been very impressed, given the price. The face fabric on both is pretty burly, I've never had them wet out (FWIW, I'm in CO so not super wet snow), and I really like the aesthetic. The Dune Pants are pretty slim and the fit was a bit odd for me; since the fabric is fairly stiff and they're cut long, they sit a bit higher than I'd like. The Dune Jacket looks amazing IMO and while the anorak design won't be for everyone, I love it for the resort since I'm not taking my jacket on and off very much.

Only real drawback so far in my experience is that they don't make many things that are not insulated. I prefer to layer with an uninsulated shell and midlayer, but when it's cold (

Very lightly insulated. I will say I did not get sweaty walking the stairway at Killington, so they do breath very well.

Cheers man, Might pick up a pair for my trip to Japow then, glad to hear Luke thinks they're decent as well, makes me feel more comfortable buying a brand I'd not really heard of.

Luke how about an idea for Blister Gear30 covering lesser known brands like this?

Yeah we're working on doing more of that this year. I'm definitely curious about Montec / Dope / Ridestore since they seemed to have just come out of nowhere, at least in the US market (guessing at least some of those brands have had a presence in Europe for longer).

Dope has been around for a little while in Europe, I always thought it was just another low end brand aimed mainly at the student market due to the prices but it looks like they're actually making some decent gear.

Not much in the way of proper reviews around though, just customer comments on their websites/Ridestore which makes me a bit nervous, would definitely be keen to read more about them, for the price they look great but no idea how they'll hold up longer term.

Yeah we talked a bit about the Dune jacket in our buyer's guide this year, and we're working on getting some of their 19/20 products this year to do long-term full reviews. Stoked to put more time in their stuff.

QUALITY UPDATE

My bibs are still in once piece, no rips or tears or any Saga-esque issues. Yesterday was opening day at Sugarbush, and it was raining. Perfect situation for testing outerwear. They may be a little ambitious on their 25k waterproofing. I was starting to feel some dampness around the knees but definitely not soaking wet. They dried off relatively quickly. You can't quickly shake them dry like a high quality, high priced shell jacket or pant where it all beads off.

Not much of a review, but I'll keep updating as these bibs get put to the test. Still very happy for $220.

Looking at purchasing the Fawk Ski Jacket, just had a couple of questions:

1) Are their jackets insulated? (not a shell)
2) When it says 25/25 waterproof/breathability is that reliable?
3) Has anyone ever got a Jacket/Pants Shipped to Australia... how long did it take???

Thanks, heaps for the help... a bit disappointed that the waterproofing isn't what it says it is, but it's better I know that now than to be more disappointed when I receive it aha. By insulated, do you mean it's insulated like a normal ski jacket? (like Helly Hansen for example)

The Montec Fawk jacket I recieved is as water proof as you can get. I always wear t-shirts under heavy jackets like this when it's 0 to minus 10 celsius. Othwerwise I'll just sweat. Living on an island in northwestern coastal Norway there has been a few rainstorms between the snowstorms. It's rainproof/windproof and very comfy. It's quality and not some ripoff shit from wherever. Shipped from Sweden.
