Keeping hands warm while filming

What do you guys do to keep your hands warm while filming? I can get by with pretty thick mitts while filming on a tripod or for fisheye stuff where I dont need to pull focus, but for handheld stuff or when filming with shoulder cameras I have yet to find a good solution as you really need thin gloves to be able to focus and find all the buttons. Any experience with hand warmers that works or maybe its worth trying to cut open a pair of mitts to still cover the top of your hand while having thinner gloves inside?

Buy thick wool fingerless gloves, then only the tips of the fingies will get cold

Yeah thats a good option on warmer days but will no doubt result in some pretty serious frostbite on the coldest days. Im considering getting these and a bunch of hand warmers to have in them, or ideally I would want that shell and buy a pair of battery heated inner gloves but thats a bit out of my budget at the moment so hoping to find some much cheaper solutions..

you usually have time in between shots to stick your hands back in your mitts with hand warmers - I feel like I never have to pull focus for more than 5-10 min or so at a time

Yeah often that's true but not always. For example I was recently filming some stuff outside and I thought it would only last for a few minutes but then the director suddenly started a 30 minute interview and by the end it felt like my fingers were gonna fall off. What type of hand warmers do you use tho? I bought a bunch but feel like most of them barley gave any heat.

I wear a liner on my right hand (shutter finger) and keep a hand warmer in my right mitten on really cold days. Don't cut gloves, get some of the touch screen ones if you really feel the need for it.

I got a pair of these for christmas and have liked them so far. Used them last weekend in -10° weather and obviously didn't keep me all that warm but we're for the price they aren't bad.
Probably would agree that thin liners + warmer gloves/mittens are the best solution

thick fingerless gloved with the little thing that flaps over the end turning them into mittens, if it's really cold get some good tight-fitting glove liners to go inside them.

I usually just use normal gloves that come off easily, and pull em on and off and deal with the cold, or maybe just use park gloves. But my hands don't get cold easily. Blessed with good circulation.

Mechanix Leather fastfit gloves have really good dexterity and keep your hands surprisingly warm too. Its worth trying them out for $15. You can even get a can of Sno Seal to make them more waterproof.

I use Mountainbike gloves with a touch function, so I still can yous the touchscreen of the camera or my phone. They can get pretty cold but if you take some proper gloves with you for in between its not a problem.
