Replying to Need advice on my Magic J's length and mounting
What's up guys. I think this is my first or second post lol.
Ski: 2016 Magic J 180cm with Look Pivot 14 mounted back 2.5cm
Height / Weight: 5'10 1/2" 185 lbs
These are my first pair of actual pow skis and I've ridden them three times now. The first two times weren't that enjoyable because the pow was heavy, but it was still more fun that my park or all mountain skis. Just got done riding them yesterday in a foot of fresh pow and it was floaty and awesome and never had any problems with the tips sinking, but felt unstable at times in certain parts of the mountain. The only thing I don't like is that I always slide out when I try to tail butter or lean back. I was doing backflips yesterday off a cliff drop and kept washing out when I would barely land back, it felt like I had to exaggerate leaning forward a little to land them. I didn't have any problems with my Al Dente's (178cm mounted back 1.5cm) landing them similarly and could lean back hard doing tail butters. I know the Magic's J's have super early tip and tail rocker.
My question is, should I mount them closer to the center or center mount them? This is what I'm leaning towards because I want to love and enjoy them more, but I also don't want to keep sliding out so easy when I butter. Also, do you think they too short for me? I'm not really a hard charge type and I like hitting jumps, cliffs, side hits, and trees so I'm not sure if I want to to get a longer ski so I can maneuver around better.
Just looking for any personal experiences or advice that would help out. Thanks!
