FWT - Freestyle VS Flow

Hoping to start a conversation about the different rider’s styles and how tricks should be factored into scores on the Freeride World Tour. Seeing Kieta Yamazaki rip his insanely surfy line, made me think about our bias toward tricks over flow. His line was straight up orgasmic even though he never even caught air. His style is why I love snowboarders even though I’m a skier.

What do you think, should tricks be valued more than pretty turns? Should air be considered better than snow? Is our obsession with spins leading us to loose the value in the LeftRight?

I think that style oriented skiing will always be better showcased through video segments. When it comes to freeride competitions you gotta give it to the people who are willing to get gnar

I agree, its all about sketchy lines and throwing airs. The style factor is being able to find a path in the rocks etc and keep a smooth rhythm rather than having to slow down or stop to check your line etc. I can smoke a fat one and steeze my way down an open bowl at Vail, what I want to see is these guys keep their composure and style going down stuff that would make a 'normal' expert skier sob in a corner.

I agree as far as video seggys being the best showcase, but it seems like even the gnarly big mtn lines don’t score as high as mellower terrain with more tricks.

Style pairs best with moderate tricks, not crazy ones. It Keeps a humble vibe going by throwing modest tricks but by keeping smooth style and Steeze prevalent, it really brings it full circle.
